Question On The Stock Motor Mounts
 

rebuilding the motor, I took my motor mounts off today to see if they needed to be replaced, the passenger side one looks ok and is pretty stiff...my question is on the driver side mount...the rubber is intack...but its not as stiff on the metal bracket, in fact it moves around losly...I managed to take it apart and it came off of the metal part easily...my question is :is it suppose to be stiff, it looks as if it should be glued down to the metal bracket....am i wrong or is it suposse to move easily and freely...again, it looks like it should be glued down? someone let me know please....

So nobody can help me with this question? I have a 93 model, so it came with one metal bracket and one aluminum bracket if that helps answer my question.

the mounts should be in one piece! You need new mounts!! Do a search for motor mounts and you will find a more detailed answer!!

You should replace the drivers mount. It is aluminum, and is prone to failure. The passenger mount is steel, and is probably fine.

FWIW ..........A friend of mine just replaced both mounts with urethane. The engine vibrations now shake the entire car. He hates it, and will be putting the stock mounts back in.

He might as well have bought solid mounts....
I've argued this point for quite some time...
The stock mounts "Float on eachother" aftermarket urathane mounts have a "paddy" that sits in-between and to keep the motor from floating off they put a bolt through where you need it anyhow, in the middle, causing a metal (motor) to metal (frame) connection.

If you want to do Poly mounts ight you have to "Pour" fresh poly around where the old rubber used to be. That way it now floats on the new poly... If done properly It's a noticeable difference in stiffness, yet a minor change in vibration, and usually only at low rpms....

Also if you Pour poly instead of cutting a puck sized wedge and sticking it in-between, you maintain the stock design of how the suspension was supposed to work, and it won't float off...

ok thanks guys, thats alot of usefull information...i get onit...my driver side is aluminum and the ruber did come off the plate...the passenger side looks like its melting apart, I just touch the rubber and is starts ripping off...i bought a set of used ones off someone here on the forum, the passenger side is in great condition but has the same problem on the driver side, the rubber came off the aluminum mount...i will have to look for another set i guess...and i dont want solid or poly mounts for the reason of vibration, its not a race car for me, its a daily driver and i dont want to feal the vibration of the motor all day

Mazda has a redesigned drivers side mount that is cast iron with the bolted on mount like the passengers side. The mount was about $150 thru mazda comp.

Or you could use two of the iron ones... with rubber suspension like I did ....

I have the "home made" driver's side urethane (bolt through) mount, but it hardly "shakes the whole car", actually it's not bad at all....and it was free!

tell him to leave the passenger side mount stock....makes all the difference
