Question: Removing Solenoid Rack
 

I saw it coming, after removing my extension manafold I hear a snap,broke my double throttle control solenoid (and my wastegate solenoid, but that's a different story.) And of course it's the damned hardest one to get to, my question is this: Do I have to remove the solenoid rack to replace this solenoid? I figure I'm this far into the engine I might as well replace the vacuum hoses (though I have 60k on the engine.) I know others say four hoses are inaccessable without removing the rack, so the obvious answer is yes. Do most of you remove the solenoid rack to install the hoses, or work around it and lift it up with hoses intact to get to the hidden hoses. I'm not too sure where to start, and all of these hoses are making my eyes hurt. No wonder everyone has their car in their garage for months at a time doing everything at once.

yes, remove the rack, it will save you a lot of problem. You only have four screws to remove and when it is out, it is so much easier to work on your desk then on the car. Just make sure you identify every hose you disconnect and take a lot of notes. Also remove the acv and the coils before removing the solenoid rack, it is going to be a lot easier.

i had to remove my solenoid rack BEFORE i removed my ACV, the nut on the bottom of it couldnt be removed with the solenoid rack in place. but I had to remove the acv to get to a couple of hoses.

yeah, it is right that the bottom is a pain in the a$$ but i have been able with the rack in place.

I have not put it back though when reinstalling it, the two top onw does the job well enough.

All i can sayis BULLSHIT! I removed mine while the rack was inplace! All you need is a few pairs of needle nose pliers, a screw driver or 2 and a way of diconnecting the hoses!

I did mine 2 montsh ago and it took 3 minutes!! And YES I am talking about the double throttle solinoid!

well actually, i was saying that because he wants to change the hoses while in there. i don't think it is a bad idea to remove to rack to change the hoses...

Actually it's very easy to do wile in car. just remove acv an coil packs.You'll need some long neddlenose,wirecutter to cut the hard vacummlines be very careful not to break the silonoids.While you're doing this it's better to use silicone hoses it will take about 27ft of vacumline .you will also need a 10mm swivel socket 1/4in driveto get to the bolt on the bottom of acv.It is easer if you take the acv of first befor the "s" rack email me at down4mine@aol.com for more info
