question for people with greddy elbow

or any other aftermarket intake elbow. does it make oil changes any easier? or is still the same pain in the ass to fit your hand in there

singleturbofd 02-22-03 11:31 AM

very easy 4 bolts that's all

Oil changes?

Tomco78 02-22-03 12:09 PM

I guess he's talking about the oil-filter. ;)

I'm about to find out in a couple of days...

Uh, all you need to do is go to Pep Boys/etc. and pick up an oil filter wrench that will fit an FD filter. Then use a 5/8" ratchet and extention and wallah, comes off no problem. Hope this helps...it sure helped me out.

p.s.- the filter wrench from Pepboys is about 10 bucks.

Whoa, some miscommunication goin' on here.

I wouldn't intervene but I want to know the same thing. When you have a greddy elbow installed does it make a difference in getting out the oil filter? I would think so since it seems to look better designed in the way of being less obtrusive.

Somebody who has a greddy elbow or has changed an oil filter on a 3rd gen with the elbow, please enlighten the peanut gallery.

All I am saying is that Greddy elbow or not, changing the filter w/ an oil filter wrench is not an issue at all. You don't have to worry about getting your hands down there and turning...the wrench does all the work. Very worth the $10.

Garrett 02-22-03 01:35 PM

I have the wrench but you don't need the thing if you hand tighten your filter. Unless you want an impenetrable seal for that donkey I wouldn't use a wrench. I bought one just in case it got stuck.

You know, in the event of an emergency.

I still want to know about the elbow for curiosity's sake. Maybe the greddy elbow will affect even the mighty wrench? Rendering it useless.;) We may never know.

V8HUNTER 02-22-03 01:45 PM

yea, it should be able to loosen up by hands. however, when using the greddy elbow, its a little bit tighter to get to the filter. but still doable without removing the elbow

It helps to have skinny arms. Those of us with 19-inch cannons have a harder time ;)

YayeR 02-23-03 07:31 PM

so it's even more of a pain in the ass with the greddy elbow?

SleepR1 02-23-03 07:39 PM

No not really.

GsrSol 02-23-03 09:10 PM

Pain in the ass? I always thought our oil filter was very easy to change!
