Question about this sensor
 

Looking over some of my parts today, and on the coil pack bracket, there is a little sensor.

One, what sensor is this.

Two...on the outer most nipple, someone did a half assed job of what looks like plastic welding or epoxy of some sort to get the nipple back on. Now when I remove the black cap that has the mitsubishi emblem on it on the opposite side and blow air through it, the outer nipple is COMPLETELY closed off, most likely from the plastic weld stuff and only the inner most nipple is releasing air. If this isn't the way it is suppose to be, what problems could occure because of this if it was left on, or possibly what did it do to my previous motor.

From your description it's a probably the purge control solenoid. If you didn't want to replace with a new one, you could probably fine a used one in the classifieds.

Actually the picture you show is NOT of the purge solenoid valve,it appears to be Turbo Control solenoid valve.
The purge solenoid valve has only TWO ports.
The turbo control solenoid has THREE.The solenoid valve shown has 3 ports.Using this valve could result in fuel vapor leakage,and a vacuum leak at when inlet manifold is under vacuum,ie lousy idle.

It could actually be operating correctly by your description too. With no power to the solenoid air should pass from the metal nipple on the left to the black plastic nipple in the middle. With 12v on the connector, the air should pass from one black nipple to the other.

If anything it would have helped your motor because it reduces boost when it's not working right. It's a pneumatic switch, not a sensor.
