question about breaking in with street port
 

Hey guys I a a few days away from my rebuild being completed and was curious if the car will be fine on the pfc's base map for break in. I am a little worried that the timing or something will be completely off. I dont plan on revving past 3500-4000 and am gonna try and stay out of any boost but say I am starting out going up a hill and hit 5#s or so is it possible or will this really only be an issue at full throttle?
I figure I will be fine with the bolt ons, but the street port is more of what I am worried about.

I have the stock twins ran seq., intake, full exhuast, large street port, smic, and plan on upgrading the fuel when done breaking in and getting it tuned also. Any input on this will be great, thanks!

my Previous FD had a Street port. and personally just keep your boost low or @ stock... 10... just dont DOG it all the time.. eventually you'll have to boost and thats how you goin to be breaking it in..... jst like a new bike. I seen people and done it my self. too. breaking it in @ the Track :) as long as you dont over rev the damn thing you should be good!!! every 1 has their own way of breaking in the motor!!

mine motor was rebuilt 1200 miles ago!! runs like a rapped APE!! :D non Seq. with a few mods !!

yes... I was running mine with a stock map on the power FC... never had any problems....
I never boost all the time.. only when i'm trying to have some fun or is needed.!! hurts my pockets when i do :(. gas aint cheap lol

aside from the raped ape can I get anybody else's input.

I broke mine in with 1000 miles no boost keeping the revs under 3k, then another 1000miles mild boost less than 5k, then took it to the tuner. Oil changed at 500miles, 1000miles and 2000miles. Just call your tuner and ask him what you should do.

i was told my break in would be 500 miles, Atkins Seals, Street port with a PFC, stock twins. My friend was told the same thing for his aggresive street port.

We were both told, under 3500k rpms, minimal boost, if not any at all.

Who's building the engine? They should give you breakin recommendations.

As long as you stay off boost, the base map is fine for a streetport.

I am about to have my new streetported motor put in also. My car's been down for a good 6 months now so i'm very happy to be getting it back!!! :)

I was told tho that it would be ok to break the motor in on the dyno. I was told that should be where i take it as soon as its running again and that it would be ok to break it in while tuning. Has anyone else done this before and is it safe?!

It all depends on how you define "break-in". My engine builder has increasing RPM and short bursts of full boost (after 500 miles) as part of the break-in process. This makes much more engineering sense to me than sitting there driving it like grandma for 1000 miles.

There is no way in hell I would even boost 10 psi on a streetported full exhaust motor with the base map. I broke my rebuild in using a map for a T-78....with mods in sig.

Well i will have probablly have drivin 500 miles by the time i get to the tuning shop in NC, but will i be ok to start doing pulls on the dyno? I'm running the SUPER Rich base map on the PowerFC but thats why i'm taking her to get tuned right away.

The PFC base map is NOT super rich! It is leaner than the stock ecu...

The people who programed it at the RX-7 store told me that set it to be a little on the rich side, but i could be wrong.

Well, if they programmed it, then it's not the BASE map is it?

A friend of mine who also has an fd built and installed my motor. The money I saved from not having a shop do it made it able for me to buy pretty much everything new from rotor housings to an engine wiring harness. So I just wanted to see more peoples opinion on using the base map.

I am so excited to get it back I feel like a little kid, I cant even sleep cause I am thinking about driving my baby again!

Well i suppose your correct. Thats just what they called it when i bought it and i've heard others mention the pre programmed PFC from the RX7Store as the "base map." Thanks for clearing that up for me though, always good to learn more info pertaining to these cars and their performance parts. :)
