question
Not sure were to post this but thought I would post it hear. Im currently getting ready to buy a car I am debetting between a 3gen surpa and a rx7. I just about a bought a 300z but I dident like the body styles on them to much so I cutted them out. I know a rx7 is cheaper to mod and meaning I can get it faster then a supra. But in the long run the supra is still the top dog. I have friends who have both cars. I have on friend that has a siliver rx7 he lives in cali and he is in the af. He has the mazdaspeed body kit with a 2 rotory twin turbo setup I think thats what he said it was. And my other friend has a supra with a stage 4 turbo charger, the supra still being faster then it. Im just trying to decied witch would be better for my frist true sports car. what are the pros and cons of both cars. thanks for the help.

IF you decide to get an Rx-7 you will have to read and read and read some more judging from what I have just read, before you buy one. They need a lot of attention. If you go with a supra you won't have to worry about things as much as you will with an Rx-7. As far as styling goes, Rx-7 rules all :D If done right the 7 will take a supra as well. They aren't that much more of a beast. They can be though.

Contrary to what you wrote, the Supra will be the ultimately faster car. They have much higher limits. But the RX7 is a more pure sports car, and needs less horsepower/torque to go just as fast. The RX7 has a nicer interior by far. The Supras are more expensive, typically. The supra is more forgiving to a novice tuner, if you stick around and read you'll understand what I mean. It is really all up to taste. Most RX 7 owners here love the Supra and wouldn't mind having one. For me, they are too expensive, too porky and don't look nearly as good as the 7. If you don't know anything about either, I wouldn't recommend them. You need to research more and understand the cars.

I was picking between the two also until I found out the weight on those tanks. They weigh supposely 3600-3800 lbs no one could give me exact weight. Rx-7 weighs ALOT less so well worth it.

Are you talking about a 3rd gen or 4th gen Supra? They are very different cars, with about a 300-400lb weight differential.

I couldn't agree more also, if you realy wanna fast ride that will kick ass and at the same time to be a head turner every time you on the road then get the RX-7.
Every time I drive my car people either come up to and ask me what is that? it looks hot or they just say WOW that's a fat ride,, that's the shit son, le'me hear how it sounds etc. If you get the FD you won't regret. |
I noticed you live in Utah. It may be very difficult to find a good mechanic to work on either car. If you are not mechanically inclined, get the Supra as they are harder to blow up and have a much simpler turbo control system.
If you are decent with a set of tools and have PATIENCE and time, an FD can be a much more satisfying car if you are looking for a PURE SPORTS CAR. Again, if you are primarily concerned with something that's very fast in a straight line and can still handle and brake well, and looks pretty good, get the Supra. I think an FD requires a committment and a few screws loose to own one. |
out of the subject: is your friend @ travis AFB?

You guys haven't mentioned that an RX-7 isn't cheap to own either. If you go with the RX7. Plan on spending some $$$ on it. I'm not just taling about Performance Mods, but you will have shit go wrong and none of the fixes are cheap. An oil leak can cost you $1200! If you buy an inexpensive RX7, chances are that you will be needing a rebuild soon, $4000... The list goes on and on...
With that said, I still love my FD! Not much even comes close. BTW, I've driven my car daily since 1996. It's my only car. |
