PWR intercooler?

im thinking about doing some a custom intercooler setup. i saw some pwr intercoolers. i was wondering if anyone knew if these intercoolers would be good to use as a core. i know that some people have used their radiator and have liked it. any information you could give me would be appreciated. thanks

PWR, Spearco, Bell are a few others that seem pretty good.

Sean (zeror?) from A-spec has a few good threads on appropriate intercooler sizing. Check one of his threads about the 500R turbo kit which I think may be either in his sub forum or the single turbo section.

I have a PWR intercooler, I have not run it yet so I can't give you any data. They were recomeended to me though. Looks solid, good welds, the thing has some mass to it. That said, I would NEVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE do business with them again.

Ordered a custom intercooler for a VMIC set up, went to the website with the owner on the phone with me, pointed out how I wanted the endtanks built, how they should flow.. I used this pic,
http://www.pwr-performance.com/images/aero2.jpg
said it was the first and fourth (from left to right), I needed it for a VMIC. The connections should be vertical like in that pic. If you gave two thumbs up, your knuckles would be facing each other and they would be the core, and you thumbs would be the orientation of the pipes. BTW, I'm drop venting my hood so only put your logo on one side please. I paid $84 for shipping so I could have it within a week. I ordered it on Friday, and had it a week later, excpet it was the wrong one. Looked like a typical FMIC as opposed to what I wanted. So I called back, spoke to the secretary, told her Cliff & I had a misunderstanding, I need to get this straitened out, he gets on the phone -
"Cliff, How are you today?"
"Well I'm having a really a shitty day"
"Sorry to hear that, what happened?"
"My secretary tells me I made a mistake. I don't like it when people don't take responsibility for thier mistakes and try to blame me."
At this point I am spun into a whole new world of pissed off becuase I KNOW I said mis-understanding. So we butted heads for about ten minutes, him saying, "When people tell me first and fourth, I go front to back, I don't know how you do it but everyone I know goes front to back." My argurement being, "I don't know what launguage you read Cliff, but I read left to right, and I KNOW I told you left to right, this can be debated for a long time, the bottom line is I gave you a few different descriptions and there was still a misunderstanding." And we argued some more. In the end I paid an additional $34 to ship the WRONG one back to him, and then an additional $49 to have him ship me the right one, which I will add has the logo painted on both sides which really pisses me off. His arguement is, he can't sell a custom intercooler which is bullshit because it's a standard size core. I feel horribly wronged by them and would never do business with them again.

A week later I ordered a custom radiator from Griffin. I ordered 1.5" in & out. It got here 1.5" in, 1.75" out. I called Griffin and they offered to take it back and send me a new one free of charge. I felt bad becuase the radiator really was an odd size, with a surge bung and no cap. Very odd piece so I asked for an adapter instead which when I figure out the angles, they will gladly provide free of charge. But the experience was totally different from Griffin to PWR. If I had to do it all over again I would have E-Bizziled the PWR intercooler and bought a new intercooler from Griffin.

Just my experience. I know one member here orders cores from PWR on a regular basis. I would FAX them a picture of what you want though. This way when thy f*ck up, you can jam the picture down Cliffs throat and hopefully save yourself $133 shipping on a $450 core. That's what really pissed me off. He had the attitude that he was doing me a favor accepting the mistake on a return when he's going to sell it and make a profit. Ah, his other excuse was that the $450 would be tied up on a shelf. So I offered to pay the lost opportunity cost on the $450 for an entire year if he fessed up and ate the shipping. $450 * 4.5% (money mkts/5yr bds) = ~$20 he's out, while I eat shipping an intercooler across the country twice, once was three day air. This was a month ago, I'm still livid at the while experience.

Just a note to any of you guys doing cutom parts.

Conversations are easily forgotten. You NEED to give them an accurate drawing with exact measurements if you want things done properly.

PM'ing you Titanium

Not knocking the product @ all, just the service. It's very well made, I can't comment on the effeincency (I'm an atrotcious speller) of the i-cooler, but I will say I am jealous of the welding. Maybe one day I'll be able to lay a bead like that, A little light on the penetration in some areas, but very well done

I agree completely. Unfortunately I was already home on Friday night, no access to a fax machine, I had a beer in my hand, and my wife was just about done with dinner, (I'm on EST, PWR is PST) so I explained it to him, offered to send him an e-mail with a lame paint file and he said there was no need, he's got everything written down, I thought we had an understanding on design, I saw no need. Hindsight is 20/20 and I agree, and in the future I will always be faxing pics. I did the second time but to little to late I guess.
