Putting my new engine together
|
Who put the engine together?
Ed |
Larry Scott of Ind. Honda Mazda Care in Escondido.
He builds a lot of 12a bridgeported rally race engines. -Jedon |
Hi Jedon,
When I quickly glanced at your day 1 pics, I was like "oh crap he forgot to put his e-shaft in :)" - guess I've been working too much lately. Is that a new driver side motor mount? -- to shiny to be used :D. Are those fiske rims you have in the background? Laters - Tommy |
Hehe that is the old e-shaft, engine has mostly new parts in it :)
Yes the motor mount is new, Larry said that 90% of 3rd gens he sees have broken drivers side motor mounts but the passenger sides are ok. Yep, Fikse FM5 17x10 rear 17x8.5 from with A032R rubber :D |
looks good, but isn't the motor mount heat shield supposed to be on the passenger side, not the drivers side?
nice wheels :) |
day 2 is the reason i have a T78 now :)
|
Yeah just a few hoses hehe. I plan to go single after I pass smog and break in the engine :D
I'll check the manual about the heat shield, I got the engine back with that and the motor mounts already on. -Jedon |
Looking good! What single are you looking at going with? What are your purposes (ie. drag racing, autox, cruising, etc.)?
Nice wheels  |
T04 60-1 .7 comp 1.15 A/R P-Trim Divided
AutoX, Road Racing, cruising. Thanx! I love the wheels, they came with the car, I don't know if I could bring myself to shell out for what they cost new! -Jedon |
isnt that a pretty big a/r to be running for autocross/street?? (1.15 vs 1.00 or .89)
im still learning....someone teach me why im wrong.... |
You are not wrong, I might go smaller, just don't want to limit myself.
-Jedon |
|
Thanks for the pics! I'm getting the tooling together right now for my very own engine project. You pictures are proving quite useful in seeing what I'm getting into.
|
No Problem, I have video and more pictures from when I was taking it apart, eventually I'll get around to putting them all somewhere so people can benefit from my mistakes :D
I've only snapped the heads off two bolts and broken both oiler lines so far...hehe sure glad I have spares! -Jedon |
Jedon,
Looks great. It looks like your keeping the MOP right? The lines are supposed to wrap around the front of the engine, around the water pump basically. Just FYI unless your doing something custom. Jeff |
Jeff,
Those things have been buggin the hell outta me, you have a picture that shows how they go? Yeah I'm keeping everything for now. -Jedon |
I'll send you an email with the pic, probably won't be a very good one since it is not focused just on those lines. The bad news is you'll have to pull the solenoid rack to get them in the right spot:(. Basically they run right in front of the two bolts that hold the front lift hook on.
Putting together a FD engine after it's been apart for a few months is a tough job, especially the first time you do it. I've always cheated and had an examplet to look at, by now I pretty much have it memorized:) Congrats on doing this yourself. Jeff |
The engine has been apart since August! I wish I had not taken my other one apart so I had one to look at to "cheat" :)
I did move the lines since those other pics though, I'll post Day4 so you can see if maybe I moved them into the right spot? Thanx! -Jedon |
Okay, now Days 4,5,6 are up as well as a help me page of stuff that is not connected or missing in action.
If people could take a look and see what I am missing I would really appreciate it! http://www.nopro.com/~jedon/engine/day4.html http://www.nopro.com/~jedon/engine/day5.html http://www.nopro.com/~jedon/engine/day6.html http://www.nopro.com/~jedon/engine/helpme.html |
ill IM you
|
Hey Jedon,
Not sure if you've figured those things out yet but for what it's worth: IMG_5573 & IMG_5574 -- ABS pump bracket - attaches to frame on passenger side IMG_5569 -- Attaches to oil filler neck IMG_5568 --Grounds to intermediate housing I believe Hope this helps. -- Tommy |
Single7,
5573,5574: On the passenger side? I'll look, someone else said it was the AC/PS rear bracket and mounted to the bolt in 5560. 5569: Thanx that's what U thought but it won't reach, I'll just make a longer one with some silicone tubing. -Jedon ps. thanx guys, couldn't do it without ya! |
Hi Jedon,
Woes is me!!! The few wretched souls such as me left in this world who still have a 56k modem at home cannot be much help to you :). I remember seeing a connector (black and single pin) that is connected right at the base to an inch thick harness goes to the powersteering. I'll check again when I get to work in the morning and can pull the picture up again. 5563 - the white connector goes to a sensor on the side of your oil pan. Look from the bottom of your car on the driver side and you should see a wire dangling from the side of the oil pan. 5573 - I'm pretty sure that the part is the ABS pump bracket. The easiest way to find out is to actually go and try and fit on your car. If you still have your ABS pump try and fit that on the bracket. The powersteering bracket actually has the powersteering pump as a part of it and is flat. I'll check the pic again when I get to work. Good luck :) -- Tommy Oh yet I remember now - the final two pics on your page - that piece goes to the upper intake manifold on the underside if I remember correctly. I'll check that later also.
