push to start in a rx7?
 

have anyone of you all installed a push to start button in your FD? I was considering it for my current build.

Go to Google, start typing "Rx7 push t"
And google will fill out "to start" all by itself and give you 20+ results to read.

Check out the products at Advanced Keys. I had a local installer/distributor install my system, which works seamlessly w our stock security system.

They make a version utilizing your OEM key that you can simply keep in the ignition slot at all times (my preference), and another using the Lexus-style push-start button. The nice feature of either option is that as you approach the car w your required key fob in possession, the doors unlock automatically. (The key fob is also necessary to start the car.)

Here is a blurb I copied from their website:

"Advanced Keys provides a complete aftermarket system for Smart Keyless Entry and Push Start Ignition. The convenience of the "Hands-Free Keyless Entry and Start" feature allows you to lock / unlock doors and start the engine without physically using your keys."

My motivation for acquiring the system was to enter and start my vehicle wout having to reach for my keys, etc., similar to the OEM vehicle entry system that my Mazda 3 has. Feel free to holler back directly for add'l features.

Has anyone else looked into installing underbody lights? I’m considering it for my “build”.

As stated, this has been covered quite a bit in the past with using the S2000 start button in particular. But, this really doesn't give you a full "smart key" or anything, to me it's a little hokey since you still have to put the key in and turn it.

I did consider going with a full smart key setup at one point but IMHO that's just too much crap to fail. Many of these aftermarket alarm/keyless systems aren't of the best quality.

Also after I got a titanium key for the car that negated my want for something else. It's a 90's car and it should have an appropriate key, it doesn't need to be 21st century.

Hahahaha. Real belly laugh there. (Posted this and then realized that I had installed one of those Honda red start buttons back in 2004, I think. Lost a cigarette lighter and think the battery's dead every time I turn the key to start it...)

Well I’ve seen pictures of your car Mr Monsen and it’s beautiful. And apparently there was a cool-factor associated with a push button start back in the day, but it escaped me. It requires dinking with serious stock wiring, which personally scares me. And once installed it still requires two actions to start the car, instead of essentially​​​​​​ just one. As you noted.
Yes, new vehicles have push-to-start…like my F150 KR. But along with door locks it operates with a proximity key.

Yea I have to agree with everyone.
Though I personally don't have a preem tit key, it's the nostalgia in having a traditional key opposed to a fob.
We're pretty much at the tail-end where physical keys will be gone altogether in place of digital keys via smart phone.

Like others have said, the only real mod option is to copy what the S2k does but I agree that it's kinda hokey in this day and age.
Before smart keys were in existence it was cool, but now it's like... "why did I add an extra step to just start my car?" haha!
I have a new S2k push button sitting in my random parts drawer with that same realization years ago.

There's also a plug and play kit someone made to "push start" with the cruise control buttons FYI. Can't remember who though.
