Pulling Error Code: Poor mans way
 

I'm having dramas with my car at the moment with it bogging and getting 0 psi whenever I put the foot down slightly.

Is it possible to bridge the TEN and GND using paper clips? I don't have much to work with and the shops are close for a few days.

sure is! xD thats how my friend and i pulled the codes from my FD once.

Ok I tried to pull some codes BUT I'm getting nothing at all...not even the check engine light coming on.

I've bridged both of those connections and went to turn the car on ignition and absolutely nothing. I even deliberately pulled off the MAP sensor to see if any lights come on and nothing....

I think I'm doing something wrong or I'm bridging the wrong ones. I'm sure they are the same on a Series 8 as they are on a 93-95?

I've also tried to disconnect the battery and press the brakes for 20 seconds and still same problem.

Does your car have a check engine light,,,i know most japanese cars dont,, not sure about australia?

Thats a very good point. I'm not even sure if I have one to begin with.

Can anyone verify this as well as what I can buy to pull codes without the check light?

1) Link GND and TEN using say a paper clip, then connect the LED to the FND?

or

2) Connect the TEN with a ground to the chasis, then connect the LED to the FND?

Sorry guys I'm not very good when it comes to electrical.

First make sure the key is in the off position at the ignition then i beleive mate if im correct that you put a jumper (paper clip in between TEN and GND in the diagnostic box) which is ten and ground, this sets the ECU into giving out its codes. Now to read them you take a reading off the FEN terminal in the same diagnostic box.

I do it using an swing needle testing meter,,, basically you connect the earth probe of the testing meter to the FEN terminal in the same diagnostic box and the positive probe to the battery positive terminal. Now switch the ignition to the on position (The ECU uses earth pulses to generate the 1 and 10s), understand? let me know if you get stuck.
