pulling the engine tonight
 

well, the time has come. i have hit 80k and the engine IS NOT BLOWN (so don't add this to the rx-7 that didn't pass 100k). the car is just starting to sound and smell and act goofy, but still hauls! it is getting rebuilt with a large street port with 3mm ceramic seals :wiggle: YEAH!!!!! i have been awaiting this day for a LONG time! but anyways, i have to pull the engine and ship it. i have done a search and got some good pics and info, but i am just checking to see if anybody has any extra tips they would like to add about pulling it. we have about 80 people (not really 80 :cool: ) that are going to help me. so between all of us...i can't see this taking very long...but i don't know. any tips would be a big help.

Actually one of the best tips I can offer is to tell you to do it all by yourself. I've always done mine by myself, but my brother has friends that help him with his 300ZXes and they aren't as in the habit of keeping track of little bolts and parts as one would prefer. It's frustrating to him, but his friends like helping him.

Don't make the mistake that one guy and his friends on here recently made by popping the oil lines to the cooler at the cooler instead of removing the 19mm banjo bolts in the block. I think the FSM shows you leaving the idle pulley bracket (holds PS pump and AC compressor) on when you remove it, but you should take it off because that's how you get those banjo bolts out. It's really not a hassle at all. Oh and that reminds me, you can easily leave the PS pump connected to the PS system and in the car, so do that ... you'll have less mess on your hands.

You might want to wait until the last to unbolt it from the tranny and unbolt the motor mounts because the motor sits front-heavy.

I would suggest taking the tranny out with the engine, much much easier. When you do, make sure you remove the shifter.

Yes, this I found was the easiest way. Simply pull the whole thing.
