Pulley installation

My air pump crapped out so, following the advice I got here, I figured I'd just eliminate it.

Ordered http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/rx...%20pulleys.htm Air Pump elimination pulleys. (mine is black not like the sliver one pictured)

I wasn't going to actually remove the air pump yet....first goal is to get the car functional again.

Went to change the pulleys today. Got the water pump pulley off easy enough. But when I tried to get the new one on it locks up against one of the radiator hose clamps. Even when I moved the clamp (and got radiator fluid all over, fun) the pulley is rubbing up against the hose.

There haven't been any real mods done to the engine and this is the FIRST project I am trying ON MY OWN. Is there anything obvious that I am just missing? I thought this one would be simple...

Has anyone encountered this and if so how did you resolve the problem?

Thanks...

Chas

You basically need to wiggle it in there (some force is required). Once you get it on and the holes aligned you should not have any obstruction.

That's the problem...the holes are aligned. I just didn't put in the bolts.

edit: and you can see the scratches from me wiggling it in there ;)

edit2: or should the center prong be flush in the middle of the pulley? It is on the prong and doesn't seem to go in any further.

My center prong is not flush - it is recessed several millimeters.

Looking at my pulley I can see that there is about 1mm clearance between the pulley and the radiator hose clamp. I didn't realize that it was so close. The only thing I can suggest is loosening the hose clamp and moving it upwards, which may gave you a small bit of extra clearance.
