Does it piss out when the car is hot?
Check for broken/cracked nozzles from the ast, and pray its not a water seal

its proberbly the hose that runs to the coolant overflow tank from the AST.
your leak is proberbly not quite where you think it is as water will run down pipes etc to where it will eventually drip.
take off your underpan, jack up your car and find the tube from the top of the AST to the overflow tank and follow it right the way along.. and hope a little join along that has come loose! good luck, and good to see more NZers on here!

2 possibilities.
1. You have a water seal problem and exhaust pressure is leaking into the coolant system (engine rebuild coming up).
2. There is a leak in your coolant system, the coolant is being pushed out when hot but can't draw back in when cooling off.

Re: Puddle under coolant reservoir

I had the same problem. As it turns out, the springy cap was on the filler neck and the flat cap was on the AST. The springy (pressure release) cap should be on the AST, the flat cap should be on the filler neck.

If you keep topping off the coolant at the reservoir, it will overflow every time the coolant heats up. Stop topping it off, and see if your problem goes away. It will probably overflow a little bit a couple more times.

you might want to check to see if the neck of the overflow tank is cracked.

btw your car does burn oil, all rotaries do ;) they inject oil into the combustion chamber :)
