Proper method for testing spark?

I need to test my spark plugs and have read the proceedure outlined in the FSM on page G-18. But the proceedure doesn't mention anything about disabling the fuel system or unpluging the other plug wires from the coils during the test. So what is the right way to do it?

What I did was just buy some new spark plugs, and then hook them up to one of the coils while I cranked the car and grounded the plug.

It didn't flood your engine?

It didn't flood mine. Or you could just take out the spark plugs and then do what I did.

I guess I need to correct my original post. The purpose is that I want to test each coil and not necessarily the spark plugs. I'm trying to find out which, if any, of my coils are bad despite the bench test results I got in which I measured ohms of resistance per the FSM. So I want to test the spark at each coil and thought this would be the best way.

Get an inline spark tester. It is basically a short spark plug wire with a light that plugs between the spark plug and the wire. When the coil fires, the light comes on. You can run the car with it hooked up.

If your worried about flooding your engine, pull out the EGI relay.
