WHOA. NICE!!!!

I hear the "Spirit R" questions comming already.

donny 07-09-03 06:37 PM

the color is an actual factory Mazda color. Its called "dark titanium metallic" or "dark shadow gray on the Fords" It is a color option off of the 2003 Mazda Tribute SUV, believe it or not. As soon as the black carpet gets here I can re-install the interior. I dyed all of the tan panels black and are going to have the seats re-covered this winter in black leather and maybe some small charcoal inserts. Then the motor is getting re-built, polished, and I am going with a single set-up, probably a TO4S or similar. I had the Apexi kit on my last FD and loved it, spooled as quick as the twins, but I want low 400rwhp this time. Apexi kit was making 355rwhp at 14.5psi on a non-ported motor..

absolutly gorgeous. Did I mention that it was gorgeours. That is exaclty what I want to do to my car. I think its great that you took the time to do it right. That color is perfect. Did you paint it yourself in your garage? to bad your in MN, I would have loved to help, then we could have done my car next. ;)

I give you props. Is the front bumper and rear wing genuine mazda. Looks great, I get sick of all the riced out FD's, I think that car looks beter than almost all FD's.

jpandes 07-09-03 08:08 PM

I started this project about 3 months ago and I would have been done 1 month ago if the carpet would ever show up. I have a lot more pics if I could just figure out how to down size them so they will post. I guess I about 1k in materials for the paint and supplys. I did everthing in my garage but rented a paint booth to spray the exterior of the car. I wanted to do it the right way that is why I gutted the interior and painted that too. Even though you will never see it, I know its not red and wont be if a panel is ever removed. i will do the rest of the engine bay this winter.. I will post more pics as I complete the car. I have some Apexi side skirts on the way, they were the least rice looking I could find and the closest to the OEM Mazda, but way less money...

chinqlinq 07-09-03 10:27 PM

man...that looks absolutely amazing...

wickedrx7 07-09-03 10:29 PM

you can post all your pics here http://briefcase.yahoo.com and then just post the link. THis is the easiest if you don't have web space.

By the way, if you ever come to Chicago with your car i would love to see it.

Later

20B Junkie 07-10-03 10:21 AM

Wow, your FD is so nice. One of the nicest and cleanest I've seen in awhile. Awesome car :bigthumb:

WSCrusader112 07-10-03 09:50 PM

What size wheels are those?

donny 07-10-03 11:05 PM

18" volk te37. 8.5" front and 9.5 rear. 235/40/18 and 275/35/18 in the rear. Nitto 555.

JOES95RX7 07-10-03 11:43 PM

awesome job! Where did you learn to spray. Did someone help you? I would just like to get mine repainted in the stock red just to get rid of the rock chipped front end that it had when I bought it.

By the way. Where in MPLS? I grew up there. Now I am one hour north of LA. Do you go to Midway ever?

donny 07-11-03 09:23 PM

I used to paint at a body shop. I have been to midway, not this year though, yet..

turbojeff 07-12-03 01:00 AM

Wow looks so good I downloaded all those pics on my 56K!

Thanks for doing a good job on it, so many FDs are getting crappy repaints. It is good to see someone do it right.

damian 07-12-03 01:17 AM

i give mad props!!

mp5 07-12-03 01:38 AM

That looked like Mazda just built it! very nice man.
I,m assuming you used a base and clearcoat?

even painting in a booth you get a liitle dust in the paint, have you got a extractor because it looks so clean for what looks like your garage.

Fd3BOOST 07-12-03 09:13 AM

The car looks real good man. I like it alot. Nice choice on the paint.
Send more pics when you get it done.

legendr35 07-12-03 04:04 PM

gosh, thats so nice, if i ever get another fd, i'm going to be copying you :D

donny 07-14-03 12:01 AM

The car should be completely done in a week or two, except for the seats, so I will post some better pics then. Thanks every-one for the response. I figured I am going to have this car for a while so I might as well do it right, especially if you are going to change the color of a car. it was alot of work but is really showing to be well worth it. I cannot wait to get the motor work done. I must save some bling, bling though first. Well, there is always the credit card???? Bad idea....maybe

donny 07-14-03 12:22 AM

To MP5 question about the paint. It is a base coat clear coat, I would never use a single stage paint for the exterior of a car. Single stage paints dont have a very good UV protection, tend to fade very quickly, and just dont look as good in general. I dont have an exhaust fan in my garage, so it did get very cloudy when I was spraying, but remember, I rented a paint booth for the exterior panels. If you clean your garage very well and wet the floor down before you spray you can get a very clean job. It is almost impossible to duplicate a factory paint job, even in the nicest paint booths. Factorys' have multi-millionaire dollar equipment and everything is computer controlled,( air temp, air quality, spray patterns and pressure, etc.) However, with a good knowledge of painting, the right products, and a lot of time wet sanding and buffing, you can get a finish that is 10x better than a factory job, it will look like glass....

RotaryForce13B 07-14-03 12:31 AM

Now thats doing it right!

Looks great!

Roar 629 07-14-03 12:54 AM
