How many here know the difference between the Profec B, I and II spec models?

I have heard various things, be it fuzzy logic in one model instead of the other. Also installation difficulties between one model or the other.

I am running stock sequentials, and was wondering if I should hunt down a spec I, or go with a spec II. What are the pros and cons of the two models?

Yes, I searched, but very little stuff on the differences between the two....

I heard the spec 2 is new and improved over the spec 1. That is what Jason @ rx7store told me. I bought one but have not installed it yet.

Philip, the series two is difficult to tune. Some people have had problems with it while others have not.

Since it looks like I will be helping you install your boost controller and set it, get a series one. It does the job.

Go figure they improve the boost controler , and make it ten times more difficult to set . My understanding is the old profec " gets the job done " and is "bulletproff " holds boost solid

Profec spec II , has three function buttons . They control about 15 diffrent functions ...as in hold set button , press setting button...stand on your head instructions . It has a bit of "lost in translation " syndrome .Thanks for the killer instructions Greddy

Go Spec I - albeit they are harder to find and just as pricey. There was one brand new on ebay the other day for around 200. Check some of the online "import stores" as well. Lots of them never get rid of their old inventory.

I have no experience with the I but I have a II. I don't find it hard to set up at all. I can adjust any setting in seconds. The only problem I am having is getting spikes on the shifts and when the second turbo kicks in. They are short enough the never register on the display of either of my two boost gauges. The spikes do register on the stored peaks of each boos gauge. They are within the limits of what my car should handle but I still don't like them. I am shooting for 10 psi and it spikes into the 12s at most.

I was looking through Ebay Motors for used Spec I's. Some of the postings indicate that you will need extra parts like 3 ways, rubber piping, hose clips, etc. Is this normal, or should the Spec I come equipped w/ everything you need to hook it up?

Three way vacume conectors can be found at any auto parts store along with vacume hose for the "rubber piping". The clamps are zip ties. This is normal.

so anyone got a solid veredict on the Spec 1 vs Spec 2? I'm looking into getting one soon. I like the Spec 2 because it go the read out and it got red lighting. But as I'm reading the Spec 2 doesn't get rid of the spiking, which the Spec 1 does.

The red light only comes on when you hit your preset boost limit. Otherwise it will remain blue. I would say don't let setting it up deter you from the Spec II. It is not as hard as others make it sound. I can change any setting within seconds. As far as the spiking I know nothing about the difference.

I too have heard problems with this unit and not being able to hold/control boost accurately, which is why I went with the Blitz SBC i-D. It's technology far exceeds that of the Profec units. Just my 0.02.

Once the boost is stabilized it hold it just fine. It is just the spike I can't seem to stop. I do know the Spec I got a good write up in a boost controller comparison Sport Compact Car did a while back. It showed a graph and there was virtually no spike.

Someone please tell me I didn't just wasted my money on the spec II when I could have just gotten the spec one for alot cheaper!

Return the spec II and get a spec one.

Is it really that bad? I mean do you have one? Ever used it? I haven't hooked mine up yet! I have a TII, Is this something that just plague's 3rd Gens with the twins or what? I mean their has to be a reason its not an improved version! Just wondering?

Good luck finding a Spec I. Most online shops do not have any left.

I am leaning towards a Spec II now, or a profec A.

Edit: Not the profec A, since Sports Compact Car says that is not for sequential setups.

I'm checking Japan for Spec Is, I have seen a few used ones on Ebay, but none in the last week.

The Profec A uses fuzzy logic.

Does anyone have "good" directions for the Profec B Spec II?

Im still wondering why its not worth a damn. I have It but am hesitant on putting it in:(
