pROFEC B AND NEW SINGLE TURBO WOES

Please help guys.:(

1) My profec b is not showing any fairy lights and it never has. the power comes on but thats about it. Does this mean its knackered or the jumpers are set wrong.

2) Secondly. My wastegate will not open, i boosted past 1.5 bar today!!!!!. I thought i would unscrew the cap at the end all the way to see if that worked but it didnt. to check spring pressure I fitted the top port direct to boost and plugged the side. that didnt work either. still boosted past 1.5 (keeping a close eye on the guage)

3) Also the single tub has made a rasping sound since fitting which i thought was normal. today while mapping the rasp got much much worse and the tub woudl not spool correct.

this is a headache.

any ideas?:icon_tup:

by the "turbo would not spool correct" i mean it was spooling with 1/3rd of the power with 3 times the noise.

oh my god. you need to stop going out and driving the car until you do a MASSIVE amount of reading. Oh, wtf are fairy lights? Ive had a profec for years and am yet to see any fairys around...

"still boosted past 1.5 (keeping a close eye on the guage)"

Are you kidding me? You call hitting 21 psi for a second time keeping a close eye on the gauge? You obviously having heard the horror stories of people blowing their motor by just overboosting a few pounds.

How was the turbo spooling 1/3 the power? Turbos produce boost, not power. Was it still overboosting? or was it running a lower boost level?

the top port should never see an uninterrupted boost source.

Thanks for the diagram arghx. i have my top port going to the profec b out then the in goes to a tube just after the tub (is this not right)?

Also just after the tub a line goes direct to the sideport.

By fairy lights i mean a set of green lights that go from left to right accross the top of the bc panel.

I am very mindful of overboosting these cars. but you must understand i am experimenting to try to get the wastegate to open. I am almost sure my profec b is knackered. so i will replace this. Also my turbo spool so incredibly fast. with such a small hotside.

Yeah i mean boost/spool not power. sorry.

it was still overboosting. my map and fuel setup are good for 1.2 bar. my guage goes to 1.5. Dont flame me just help me out.

Run straight boost pressure to the side port and leave the top port vented. See if the wastegate opens.

I thankfully have sorted my boost problem. with the profec im at .6 - .8 with it off (!) 1.0 with it on low and 1.2 on high. I am getting some oscillation of boost and a tiny bit of creep. Any help with fine tuning it?

Montego 07-08-09 06:51 PM

So what was your problem?

TheWoganSleeve 07-09-09 07:36 PM

The problem was to do with the jumpers being set wrong. im not sure if they moved while i was installing. but a quick flick and its holding good boost. The boost does seem to creep a little when hitting 1.2 bar. I just thought the standard map sensor is only good for this level?

The stock map sensor only reads up to around 17.5 psi. so right around the level you're running at.

How much does it creep? it could be due to your wastegate size/manifold design which doesn't make for a very easy fix.

or if the boost controller has a gain control you might try increasing this. On the spec II if you raise the gain the boost will also go up so you need to reduce the set level at the same time.

You may also try different line sources for more stable boost control.

I have the wastegate spring allen key bolt set almost all teh way out (as soft as poss) so will try to tighten this, and set the gain softer. it is at the moment at its most ferocious setting.
