Profec B Controller Not Working
 

I've searched the forums and haven't found a specific answer to my problem so I thought I would throw it out here. I have a used Profec B. It's hooked up like version 2. Worked great for a while, now it's dead. I had a hose job done a while ago and it worked for a while after that. Since I've had this problem, i've replace the check valves and that helped a little but not really. I was boosting 8-6-8 (typical pattern for a car without boost pills which ofcourse the profec b doesn't have). I removed the profec all together and put a ghetto $1.50 manual boost controller on it (I'm a little embarrased to say it is just a plastic T fitting i have on the wastegate line that vents to atmosphere :rlaugh: ) and it boosts a consistant 12-9-12. It runs great but i would rather have the controll with the profec. I've read about an "air filter" and "stepper motor" but i don't know what this means. Can anyone tell me how the profec works and what could possibly be wrong with mine? Thanks.

The solenoid could be bad. Less likely would be something wrong with the control unit.

Do you have the profec T'd to both turbos?

fyi...when rynberg says solenoid he is referring to what greddy (and you) call the stepper motor.

also, the filter runs between boost source and controller, but i doubt that a lack of filter would cause your problem.

do you hear it "clicking" when you start to boost?

I don't remember hearing any clicking from under the hood when getting on the boost. If the solenoid is bad do i just need to get a whole new unit or is it repairable (or can i just buy a new solenoid without buy an entire profec b unit?) As for where it's T-ed in, i have it set up like this.

I had version 2 set up and now i just have my ghetto Tmanual controller where the stepper motor (solenoid was). Since I was getting a perfect 8-6-8 pattern, it sounds like the boost was going straight through the controller as if it wasn't there which sounds like what ericwarren is saying that my stepper motor is shot.

Again what are my options if this is the case? How can i test to be 100% positive it's the solenoid? Thanks for your help guys. :bigthumb:

I forgot to ask were in the boost source line is the filter if i have one, right before the controller or right at the boost source?
I still have one foot vacuum line attached to both the in and out of the controller. Maybe i should take those off and have a look.

see if you can swap out the step motor.. Obviously you checked all connections and vac hoses for splits and weaknesses. Have a buddy w/ a profec?

the clicking means the stepper (solenoid) is being activated, so the controller is definitely sending a signal there. now it is hard to tell if it is sending the signal and the solenoid is just not responding properly or the controller isnt sending the rgight signal. try to swap out the control unit with a friend's...if you have the same problem then you know you need a new solenoid.
i have my filter in the cabin, about 1ft away fron the controller.
