PRODUCT REVIEW: EVO-R GT2AD replica wing

I have been shopping around for wings for quite some time and I was almost dead set on buying the APR GTC300 wing for my FD. I am the type that will look for a better deal for something used than new, however no one likes to sell their GTC300 wings.

I almost pulled the trigger on a new wing until I was shown the EVO-R replica of the RE-Amemiya GT2AD. One of my friends has the authentic wing and another has the replica.

Other than hardware differences and a slight difference in weight, the wings were identical.

I've seen some negative things said about EVO-R about communication and product quality. However, I didn't see anything said about the wing.

That being said, I opted for the EVO-R wing.

I reached out to EVO-R via email and PM and he responded to me via PM within 24 hours with a price and an in stock confirmation. $789 + $125 shipping for the carbon version and $689 + $125 shipping for the FRP version. I sent him a payment on Thursday, July 31st and I was notified by paypal that the item was shipped on Friday, August 1st.

Fast forward through the weekend. I checked the Fedex tracking number Monday morning and it was already out for delivery?! NO WAY. Being that the wing was shipped from Taiwan, I didn't expect it to already be out for delivery. I had to go to work and left a note for the fedex guy to leave the wing at my side door.

Upon returning home from work, I saw the box and I immediately got excited. I opened the box and the wing was packaged very well.

First impression: WOW. This thing is shiny as hell. There are a few flaws in the clear coat, but they're nothing some wetsanding and polishing can't fix in a few minutes. The stands are solid and the end caps are nice and thick.

I assembled the wing and the ONLY thing I'm not happy with is that the front holes of the stands and the wing don't line up very well. Again, not that big of a deal.

Overall, I'm impressed with not only the wing, but the transaction as well. Would I buy the wing knowing what I know now? yup.

Looks really nice, when you going to snap some pictures of it on?

JBF 08-07-14 05:50 PM

Hopefully this weekend.

kbhoioejma 08-12-14 11:55 AM

looking at the pics the wing looks identical to my RE gt2 wing.... my maint concern would be how strong the stands are and the mounting point on the wing. is it reinforced under there

JBF 08-12-14 12:07 PM

There's no reinforcement, but I'm going to make a "pad" at the very corner of the hatch to help keep it from flexing. Installed pics coming soon.

Installed pics as promised.

The installed pics throw me off. Is there a base that the stands mount into? It looks like it is just sitting on the deck lid. The only thing I dont like is how the stands are not at the same angle as the body lines of the trunk-quarter gap.

I have an evo r GT2 wing as well. If you wanted to knit pick, then there are a few things that you could complain about but for the price and availability, you can"t beat it. I am very happy with my purchase. I'll try to post a pick of my car and wing

that is how the GT2 wing mounts, the bolts go through the hatch and directly vertical into the stands themselves. the stands are not gonna be at the same angle as the body lines otherwise the stands would not be parallel with each other.

the GT3 wing has base mounts at the bottom of the stands, the GT2 wing does not.

Great review. Thanks!
Here is a photo it mounts. I have it on my RX-7 race car for years. So far so good. Love it.

I find myself forced to disagree with you... I have a genuine GT spoiler and the mounts line up just fine with the trunk lines.

You can't buy a cheap knock-off and expect it to be as good, or better, as the genuine item.

Pic of genuine mounting stand, it lines up:

You must be pretty pumped to get to show off your genuine feed spoiler. Congrats to you.

I am not sure if you realize this, and I don't mean to embarrass you, but you seem to be in the wrong thread. This is an re-amemiya GT2 replica wing product review. (not feed)

fendamonky 08-13-14 08:34 AM

That would be a pretty cool response if you were right.... except that the RE-A spoiler mounts also follow the trunk line.

The feed and re-a wings are pretty similar, and I considered them both. I ended up going with the feed because of the bases for the wing stands.

I only bothered to post because you implied that the genuine stands also fit the FD lines like shit... I'm just saying that you get what you pay for

Carry on with showing off how cool your rip-offs are

You're wrong, actually.

Here's how an authentic RE-A wing mounts...

http://images.importtuner.com/featur..._Side_View.jpg

So, no. It does not fit the trunk lines. I had questions pertaining to that and a friend of mine who owns the authentic wing confirmed.

That being said, this discussion is about the EVO-R wing and not the FEED Afflux. Yours may mount in a similar fashion, but it doesn't.

I considered going authentic as well, but I have seen authentic wings split down the middle on straighaways and high speed turns. So, I decided to take my chances on splitting a replica for half the price...if I manage to do so, of course.

Anyone wants this I have more just came in.

What size are the bolts that go through the hatch into the stands? Can you post a pic of the underside where the bolts go though?

They're m6 studs secured by washer and nuts. It mounts onto the flat side of the bottom of the hatch.

black ls-14 12-24-14 09:57 AM

That's what I needed to know! Thanks!!

fd3s777 12-30-14 01:31 PM

They are size 10

if you dont have a real RE-A wing to base your reference from please dont comment. bc you are wrong.

i have a REAL RE-A gt2 wing on mine and the wing stands are exactly the same. they sit straight... they dont follow the trunk line. nice try though lol

the only visual thing i see different from this replica and mine is the hardware used to attach the wing to the stands and the end plates on the wing. ive never dealt with a evo r wing so i can say anything else about quality or weight or how rigid it is.
