problems with the rx7

ppl I am having problems with my rx7...
its an automatic and the problem is that when i take my foot of the acceleration ... my cars acceleration goes to 700 rpm and slowly goes to 400 and 500... i dont know what the problem is .....recently i changed my oil filter to a k&n one.... you think could this be a problem ..... help please

weetbix13 Feb 23, 2006 01:54 PM

RPMs are unlikely to be affected by oil pressure/flow.
idle control, throttle position sensor or throttle cable adjustment would be my first pics... does it only do it after boosting? only after cruising? symptoms please!

TrevorC Feb 23, 2006 01:57 PM

why the double post?

dradon03 Feb 23, 2006 01:58 PM

Probably the 3rd funniest post I have every seen.

yes they do :wallbash:

Montego Feb 23, 2006 02:40 PM

You attribute a blown engine to an irratic idle?

How about the idle control solenoid?

I was joking...

As we all know come to idle turn on A/C or brake and the idle will drop momentarily as well.

Just that this dude knows nothing or has done no research my bad.

Best advice I can give your is:

- Read the posts in this section
- Search the FAQ's or Archives when you have questions.
- Download the Factory Service manual
- See on the top of your page there is something that says "Search" Click it and when the box opens write what you are looking for.

In your case write ex "idle problem", "idle control solenoid" and read this should give you all your answers and combined with the Facotry Service Manaual you will know where to look on the car.

Also if you were in Pakistan I would tell you look for New Zealand, Korea or Japan to see how much it would cost to ship the car there in case you ever get a major fuck up.

Good luck,

Alex

If you own this car, you'll need to learn a little about how everything works. So at least you can properly describe your problem. It's hard to diagnose a car on the internet. A "hmmm hmm" sound doesn't tell us anything. When I first bought this car, changing oil and spark plugs was the extent of my automotive knowledge (slight exaggeration). In your scenario, being in Pakistan, it's even more important to learn to work on this car yourself.

Montego Feb 24, 2006 05:30 PM

Dradon already pointed you towards the right direction.

mute Feb 24, 2006 05:33 PM

Hi mate the irratic idle is just weird like two days ago it was fine but now when i start the car the acceleration just goes down if idle and on the roads when i am riding it it works fine

I really don't think it is a blown engine
cuz if it was than the car would hav not performed well on the road

Dradon was just joking with you about the blown engine thing. But here he gave sound advice:

Mine has a weird funky idle, along with some buckling when decelerating at very low RPMs. From what I've have read it's the classic symptoms of a TPS out of wack (especially since this didn't start happening till after the rebuilt where most of the TPS seem to go out of spec). Keep saying I'm gonna take a look at it but I never get to.

For you though, you should really look at the idle control solenoid. If your symptoms were more severe I would say that maybe your map sensor got disconnected during your WOT run. But it's worth a check, maybe the hose is just kinda on there who knows. IT only takes two seconds to verify if your map sensor is disconnected. Open the hood and look for a little black box that says "boost sensor" on it. It's near the throttle body bolted to the firewall. Look to see if the hose beneath it is disconnected if it is then reconnect and your done.

If that ain't it then let the hunt begin! You could also have a vacuum leak ya know. Aahh fun stuff owning an FD

GoodfellaFD3S Feb 24, 2006 07:36 PM

look under the hood for any crimped, cracked or popped off vacuum hoses.....

you ppl have been a great help thank you all .... but tell me one thing what is the company fitted rpm on idle ....... and i really need the manual of the car in english from where can i find it

dgeesaman Feb 25, 2006 06:22 AM

Right near the top of this forum, in a thread called "94 FSMs available for download". It's generally good for 93s, 95s too.
