these prices seem pretty good compared to tirerack

Also if I'm only going to drive the car once a week and try to keep it out of the rain do I need such a good tire. I dont race it and have no mods.

What are some other quality tires?

I heard Kumho are a great value...

S03's up front Nitto 555R's out back. The ONLY combination I will use other than switching to Yoko A032R's for drag racing.

My opinions:

Kumho "regular" street tires suck. Period. Don't use them. No offense Jpandes, but street Kumhos definitely lower the handling limits of the FD.

Also, most people would tell you to NEVER mix totally different tire brands front and rear. Jspec's setup means you can't rotate your tires and I have a tough time believing the car still has neutral and predictable handling with S-03s on the front and Nittos on the back.

markyb: just go with S-03s on all four, many people feel these are the best street tires out there, and yes, quality tires matter. Everything you do with your car goes through your tires. Tires are the very LAST place to get cheap with your car.

You have to understand also that I have 17 X8 up front and 17 X 9 out back. UNI-DIRECTIONAL TIRES. My car is primary for street dragging....and with the A032R's the track.

I agree with rynberg about the tires being extremely important...the most important thing on the car
they are the only thing connecting your car to the ground. Car and world are 2 differnt things and the tire has to be in the middle of that.
sure....go cheap on tires and then just pay to have your car put back together after you wreck it.

what brand are s-03's?and how much do they cost? what is the best size to gowith on stock rims?

Tirerack is got s03 for sale. They've got a whole bunch of models on sale right now. Yoko has a new EX3000 or something tire too for $110 that seems to be a good deal too if you wanna save a little money.

One of the best things about the Bridgestone S-03's is that they have a new technology which keeps the tires soft as they wear. Other tires harden over time as they go through heat cycles. Each time a tire heats up, the long chain polymer molecules in the tire link up. Over time, this causes the tire compound to get harder. The S-03's have a softer compound in the inner layers of the tire, and as the tire wears, this layer is exposed and the tire retains is grippier character instead of hardening and become less grippy.

yse indeed. i used to run p-zero's, but when the s03 cam out, it was that from there on.....

they are superb in the rain. superb in the dry. no compromising. they GRIP. i now use the 555's just like ^, and love them too.

Have you ever ridden or used the Kumhos for the street? I have. Not only that, those tires served me well on the track at VIR. I don't know about drag racing (and could careless, since the FD wasn't meant to drag race with), but my RX handled amazing at VIR in both wet and dry conditions. I have seen over 160 on those tires, with no problems. I have Kumho 245/45ZR16s on stock rims. In the wet, they are an excellent tire. As a matter of fact, before I had the Kumhos, I had Dunlop SP Sport 9000s on them, and the handling is comparable between the two. The Kumhos have a slightly harder sidewall. Between the two tires, I would give the nod to the Kumhos because of their wet handling characteristics. I have also had Nittocrap (when I first bought the car - not my choice), and all they were good for was some nice launches. All Nitto seems to care about is basing their street tire on their drag tire. I threw those out 3 weeks after I bought the car, because the handling was horrible. Kumho is underrated, and it shows by a lot of opinions out there, who haven't had a chance to put the tires to task out on a road course (not an autocross course, but a true high speed course).

tirerack is having a sale on the yokohama AVS-Intermediate. It's actually more of a clearance. I gto 245/45/16 for 59 each plus 36 for 2 day shipping. That's over half of what they used to be. the AVS-I and the Bridgestone RE71 are/were considered to be one of the stickest best street tires for the buck.

I'll back up the fact that the kumho 712 street tire is on the stucky side. It chunks and even 'melts' and gets really greasy when pushed on the auto-x or road course

I ran 245/45/16 Kumho's on the street for about 18,000 miles. They were fine, I took them to about 165 mph. I drive my car pretty hard and they did great. I don't know about auto-x or anything but for the street they are probably the best bang for the buck. Mine got a little noisey towards the end of their life though.

I got the Yoko AVS from tirerack for $59 each. They were a pain in the ass to mount because of the really stiff sidewalls but seem to be great tires. They are sticky enough that they pick up alot of road debris and whatnot. No complaints so far.

The Yoks AVS-I are a great deal for 245/45/16! When I heard about the sale, I went out and bought a set even though I don't need tires. When the Kumhos are done with, these will go on the car. $59 is very cheap when you consider these are great tires.

I am running the Yok AVS-I and have no complaints. Have about 5k on them and 3k of that was my trip from FL to WI and back. Had a record for getting a nail in a tire though. 2 miles! Was repairable so that was good and they didn't even charge me for the repair:) .

yeah, the deal is awesome. I don't really need tires either, but my thin 225/50 tires are just not good enough for this level of HP. I was thinking of order 4 more just b/c the deal is so awesome.
