Price Question!

I need a new motor and my mechanic is trying to charge me 4K, is that overpriced??

RxSeven1 03-15-04 04:48 PM

just for a stock motor or is installation included. mazda remans cost half that.

Not to be a dick, but define "new" motor. If he means a remanufactured engine from Mazda (~$2000) all the gaskets and such from the transfer of parts (~$1000) and the labor for the R&R (~$1100), then he's not far off. If he's talking about a brand new engine (~$4000 to $6000) with all new parts, and he's willing to do the whole thing for $4000, then you should smile, or run 'cause he's dumb. But I bet he's not dumb.

yes intallation is included

my mechanic is pretty well known, and it is a brand new engine, not from mazda..thanks a lot spurvo

For a fixed price of 4k for a motor swap, that's decent. To tear down yours and rebuild the same parts, then find out if that includes new housings or rotors. Depending on the engine failure they will need replacement and the price will go up.

who is your mechanic? brand new? so hes actually using new rotors, housings, etc for less than 4k installed?
