power loss question
I had my rear main seal replaced and a new down pipe installed and it feels like I have lost some power. I was told that the clutch would take a little while to set. But what else would make my car seem to have had power loss?

We cannot help you without before and after boost readings. If you don't have a boost gauge....get one!

I do have a boost gauge and boosting a 10psi both before and after. It's seems have power loss on take off and the clutch feels a little weak.

Do you feel the clutch is slipping more than before?
What rpm are you taking off at? I find that when I drive a stiffer clutch I need to make a more conscious effort to engage at suitable RPM. On an FD, if you engage lower RPM than normal you'll really feel it. Dave |
Yes, I do feel the cluthc is slipping more. The same guy that replaced my rear main. Replace my clutch about two mounths before with a racing beat clutch. Before the rear main the clutch was popping hard and now after the rear main the cluctch feels easy and smooth. Should I worry about all these changes or should I take it back and have something fixed?

It think you'er feeling a difference in the harshness of the clutch. The pop is undesirable, but if it's too smooth you'll have trouble putting the power down without smoking it.
My impression is that smooth is better, as long as you still have good control of the amount of torque being passed thru. In other words, as you're engaging the clutch, and you lift up the pedal, you should always get a clear increase in bite. Too harsh means you won't have any real control at the friction point, which IMHO is for race cars only. Dave |
Thanks for all the info... One more question what should I be boosting at with a new down pipe installed?
|
It should have been 10psi, and if you install a downpipe on a stock car it should not go up above 11psi. If it does, you need to get a boost controller installed to lower the boost to stock levels.
