power fc boost adjustment question...please take a look if ya know how to do it. :)

hi

Finally am around to tuning my car a bit....it goes on the dyno on monday but I want to get it close to running as strong as possible before I take it over there.

I tried today to raise the boost using the commander for the power fc. no luck...no changes to the percentages would raise the boost at all past stock levels....I wanted to get them to at least 13lbs before the tune.

why would this be happening?...why wouldnt my pwer fc control my boost?...the lines are stock size and the pills are in them.

what has to be done to get the pfc to adjust the boost?

the turbos and the vacuum lines are absolutely positively not hooked up wrong or crossed.

is there a way to tell if xs actually tuned my pfc when I purchased it from the rx7 store to whom I stated my mod list to.

thanks

jason

Jason, you'll get more replies from the people who actually use them in the PFC forum section. One way to tell is to download the map from the forum and compare it to your xs map. Be advised that XS does things a bit different in their timing and base fuel maps you can't view unless you have the datalogit.
As far as boost, what are you seeing now? what's the value at on the commander...target boost number and duty cycle numbers. Does changing the boost setting not change your boost? setting 1 is usually lower than the 2nd one.

changing the boost settings does not change the boost....except lower.....I was able to manipulate it from a range of five to nine lbs of boost but no higher.

any more input is appreciated.

thanks a lot

j

ps..the value on the commander is.....80 for the 1 setting and .90 for the other.

changing the duty cycles did move the boost around a bit but i cannot boost past nine lbs....and with a turbo setup that needs at least 13 for efficient operating speeds this is a bit frusterating.

thanks guys

With your setup, you should have no problem turning up the boost... What intake temps are you seeing? The only thing I could possibly think of that sometimes doesn't allow me to reach the set boost is if my intake temps are too high...

artguy 04-26-02 06:51 PM

all temps are good. it actually runs a bit slower when its cold...but that has always been the case.

why cant I raise my boost.

my dyno tune is monday...this must get solved.

any help is appreciated.

thanks

I would put the primary and secondary on .9 and put the duty cycle to max on the boost levels. That would get me up to around .83 on primary and .9 The PFC doesn't control boosting up well.

artguy 04-26-02 07:57 PM

I tried changing those numbers...no matter what my max is .79 bar

here is what Im getting

idle .... negative .335 bar
3500rpm- .52
4000rpm- .75
4500rpm change drops to .50 bar
5000rpm- .67
6000rpm- .77
redline- .75

I did a few runs and the above numbers were about the average of the runs. I tried adjusting the duty cycles and the boost levels as specified above and got no changes after it hits the peak of .79 bar.

I can see the change in boost at 4500 rpms but it does not have any kick like the second turbo is boosting....

M2 claims that I need to boost more than the stock required 8lbs for the secondary to spoolup and kick in.

why is this happening?

:)

I love this car..hahahahahah.

Depending on the stock turbos that M2 used for the conversion, what year does the restrictor pills in the lines get replaced by the size of the nipple openings in the turbos pipes that the lines connect to? 94 or 95? I can't remember, a quick search may answer that.

it is not a pill problem....removed stock lines and replaced with a manual boost controller....even with that set for good spoolup and thirteen lbs...I still had exactly the same ole problem...its just not going past .79 bar peak

Jason,

Are you saying that your manual boost controller you used it with the stock set and got 13 no problem?

Have you tried to close the valve a little more?

no...the manual boost controller made no difference at all...does the same thing as above with the stock pills.....

are any of you running the manual contrllr with the pfc?

thanks

ran it today...blocked off the precontrol...ran it to atmosphere....max boost ran up to fourteen lbs.....but boost did not come on until 5500 rpms plus....HOWEVER..it should have boosted twenty plus lbs setup like that...why is this?

will be doing a tear down tomorrow.

m2(where I got my turbos)...and xs (ecu purchase thru the store) both shops claim that it is a control issue....but all my solonoids are new and were checked...everything looks hooked up correct...

double checking first thing in the morning.

any input on this is appreciated.

I haven't had any problems getting the PFC to allow me to boost higher. It sounds like you are changing the settings correctly with the .xx bar setting and wastegate duty cycles. This may sound like a stupid question, but after you set the settings for your high boost setting (2), did you highlight the 2, then hit the back arrow on the controller to "select" that setting?

Around town I run the stock .8 bar with 56% and 64%, when I need more kick I've got the higher setting at .95 bar with 68% and 74% and can consistantly hit 1bar in 3rd & 4th gear on cool days (<65F).

the power fc was set correctly each time I have toyed with the boost levels. and no..that was not a dumb question.

no amount of power fc toying has solved the issue. that is the first thing checked...most of the rest involves teardown...much to my chagrin.

Ill let you guys know what I find out tomorrow.

this is a challenge.

problem solved....bad acutator that controls boost...it was stuck halfway open...or halfway closed. :)

its running much better now that we broke it loose...am thinking the inside is damaged as boost is still off a bit...am finally able to boost the 12-14lbs necessary for the m2 turbos to perform well....

however the car still runs a bit slow...dyno this week for sure.

So there are no longer any oil spitting issues with the M2 GT ballistics?

Did the oil restrictor do the trick?

forcefed1 05-12-02 11:11 PM

which actuator was it that you had problems with?
the one nder the turbos?
the top front one?
or the bottom front one. and how was it stuck open. I seem to have teh same problem as you. no matter what I do I get 7 psi boost.
lemme know which one to check.
