pouring tranny fluid

thru the shifter, is it ok? i changed my clutch and am putting in some new ones, i have the pump butu it doesnt fit the container my tranny fluid is in and i searched, couldnt find anything, but can i? and jus stop pouring wen fluid starts coming out of the fill hole? thanks

The shifter base and the transmission case are not connected. Both have to have their own resevoirs of fluid. I had a similar problem with my fluid pump; I resolved the problem by finding another bottle (brake fluid bottles work well).

Depending on how the pump works, it might not need to seal with the bottle. You could use some duct tape if you find that it does need to seal.

If you don't have a pump, you can use a long clear tube and run it up into the engine bay (following the clutch line). Then you can use gravity to fill the tranny. It will take a bit, but it will be easy on the body.

buy a pump. they are cheap and make filling the tranny a 10 minute job vs. an hour long ordeal.

thanks

i do have a pump, it jus doesnt hook up to the redline bottle like the regular tranny oil containers

i guess imma give Mahjiks method a try

thanks for the replies

I believe the transmission housing takes 2 quarts. Just use 2 bottles and you should be good to go.

an impeller and 3 feet of hose from home depot cost like 8 bucks. with a variable speed drill it takes 2 sec to do the job. and you just "made" youself a tool

What you could do instead of running 3 ft. of tubing is to open up your shifter boot and rubber boot and then have access to your tranny from inside your cockpit. From there, you can run your tubing into the transmissiong housing with less tubing. That way it'll be faster to fill it up. I should have done that before.

you are brave bringing an open container of gear oil inside the car. that stuff smells for days

Exactly. That and if it spills, I know I don't want that stuff inside my cockpit. ;)

I just put the tubing inside the oil bottle and then use duct tape to seal it. Once it gets to a certain level, I punch holes in the bottom of the oil bottle so that it can release it faster. Works like a charm!

lol great idea but i went and got a pump at kragen lol

Man I wish I had thought of that. Would have save much time under the car with a make shift hose hooked to the tranny fluid bottle. Lots of squeezing and refilling. What a PITA.

a simple pump and a line is all i needed. I changed the trans fluid faster than i changed the oil.
