Potential FD owner, looking for expertise on worth of this car.
 

I'm looking to get into an FD soon, always been my dream car. I've owned two first gens, and two FC's, and now I'm looking to make the step up. I decided to purchase a blown motor/no motor car, as it's financially better for me, and is more fun for me also. I've been looking at, and talking to another forum member about a vehicle on here. It's a 94 SSM, not sure on the model, although it does have a sunroof, and leather, so if anyone could clear that up for me that'd be great. I'm not looking to beat the guy up on price, just curious what some other members would pay for this car. I've attached a few pictures to show it's condition. It's got a salvage title some fender damage, some damage to the QP, and also some pretty hefty damage to the sunroof. Any opinions are more than welcome, and I appreciate your responses. Thanks.

Personally I wouldn't buy it and you end up paying a LOT more with a project car. I don't mean to try and derail anyone's dreams but if you have to consider finances before purchasing one...you probably shouldn't. =)

To answer your question, I'd pay 3k for that car tops with a Salvage Title. I probably wouldn't buy it at all unless I was going to part it.

No need to apologize, I definitely respect your opinion. I am, however looking for a project car. Something to take my time on and build, not something I need to have up and running in two months. So you'd stay away from a salvage title? Any particular reason why(Resale, unknown condition of certain items)?

Buy a close to stock car and slowly upgrade, spend less in the long run and be able to enjoy it.

Building ANY FD is guaranteed to be lot of work and time in itself without having the additional task for correcting metal deformities. Regardless of price, I'd pass with the exception of a planned part-out.

I recommend checking out the classifieds on this forum if you're looking for an FD. You'll have the additional benefit of knowing the history of the car and it's owner(s) as well through their posts.

You said you want to make a "step up". That car isn't a step up from anything! Keep looking.

So basically, this car is worth zero unless its parted out?

We buy many shells, rolling chassis and full Fd's. . .something like that we either part out or build a full-race track only Fd...and unless it has some good parts in it. . .there's not much point. . .i would look at something else, personally . . .

Put it this way, you buy the car put money into it and because the title will never be worth more than 5-6k unless parted out.

I would not buy a roller like that unless you've built AT LEAST one FD already and you know exactly what you're doing. Yes, you can get into an FD like that one for $2500-3000, and you can tell your buddies you own an FD, and you will have your "dream car." But you will put a lot of money into getting it in shape. Mistakes will be made, some parts will have to be bought more than once, and by the time it's finally on the road and looking good you will have spent far more than you would have if you'd just bought a decent clean-title running example from the get-go.

I know what I'm talking about. I've been building an FD the wrong way for the last 8 years and have still not been able to drive it. Get a solid car to start with and make it your own. Don't waste time and money refurbishing someone else's garbage.
