Dammit, i'll try it again soon.. my average was 5.74 along time ago when my car was stock.. i weigh about 130lbs (lightweight) and my friend was timing at about 150lbs.. on a full tank of gas, and road slightly wet.. i'm not sure if that time is good, but it seems somewhat slower.. i think the slower time was due to a slipping clutch.. so yeah.. :) i'll try it again with my catback when the weather gets better.. it's snowing a lot nowadays.. sigh..

Sank 01-27-02 07:33 PM

4.13 w/ DP

I finally got around to doing mine. Bone stock 93 touring, but with a downpipe. That's it. Ambient temperature was about 35F.

This was back and forth, back and forth on the same stretch of road. The average time comes to be: 4.23 seconds. The interesting thing is I also tried the same speed test, but using second gear as well as third, and the time for that was 3.98 and 3.77 seconds.

pretty quick for bone stock!! EXCELLENT:D

Sank 01-27-02 07:43 PM

Note that the temperature was nice and chilly. I'll try again on a nice warm day and there will probably be a noticable difference.

Now that would be interesting too.

Got my car back from the shop the other day. It had a primary boost problem and we found that the J&S box was causing the 6000 rpm cut out. So I will do some more 40-70 runs this week and post the times.

Hmmm... 'bone stock' and 'downpipe' in the same sentence ;)

kwikrx7 01-28-02 12:48 AM

Very impressive times Sank for a FD with only dp. Must have a strong running car. I won't be able to do the test until after Feb. 5th but look foward to doing it. I'll make sure I post my numbers

FD Seeker 01-31-02 12:34 AM

I'm having my friend do this test with his SS Camaro.
Definitely not apples to apples, but I'm very curious.

Sank 01-31-02 12:44 AM

Definately not apples to apples. He's got a 6-speed, and massive torque. Keep him in one gear, but allow him to shift to his optimum as well. Then get both times and compare to mine, both times. I would be curious to see both numbers from the SS. And they do have a quicker stock 1/4 mile time as well...

I'd think the Camaro's 3rd gear is somewhat still comparable to the FD....we'll see.

billvp 01-31-02 12:20 PM

hmmm, I can hit 80 in 2nd gear in my '91 Stealth tt ... should I try it using 2nd or 3rd? :p

I'll post the results for some general info :)

Impressive...

Try in 2nd only, then 3rd only.
I think 3rd will be a more realistic comparison, since it will have you running through a lower RPM range. (my FD started around 3K for this test)

This will also be interesting to see.

technonovice 01-31-02 05:25 PM

The 3rd gear test will be more relevant.

whitekingsnake 01-31-02 06:29 PM

Ok tried mine last night.

94 Base with a DP. I tried it 5 times and got between 4.0-4.5

It's easy to get addicted to it. Before my new engine I was bone stock and would see numbers like 5.0- 5.5 w/compression of 6.2-6.5 still not bad.

Later...Scott

FD Seeker 01-31-02 07:01 PM

Hmmmm.... Should I conclude from all this that I can cut a clean 1/2 second off my time by simply getting a downpipe???

There are varibales like compression, air temperature, tune, etc...

Everyone posting their times should include variables like:
-Temperature
-Car mileage
-Full tank of gas? (extra weight)

technonovice 02-09-02 11:31 AM

Well since response here has been so weak I will have to seek more data ...non FD. I have started compiling the info into a list.

Try and get us more times.

capt. bill1 02-13-02 09:11 AM

Ran some 40-70 times last night. Cold night, low on gas. Two way times 3.2-3.4 sec.

I definitely want to see your mods. Let me know what you think of that cd.

you warm weather boys have to realize that most of us rust belt guys have put our cars up for the winter. If most others are like me, winter is a chance to tear the car apart and make some solid upgrades.

That's just plain sad. I was wearing shorts yesterday in 80 degree weather.:)
