Is it possible to run too rich?
 

Is it possible to run too rich, and if so, what are the ramifications? Clogged cat? Anything else?

I'm planning on putting a remapped ECU into my car with only a DP, cat-back, and K&N drop-in. The logic behind it is that I plan on putting in a bigger IC and cold air intake in the future. Will I be too rich until the IC and/or intake come along?

You should be fine with what you have with an ECU programmed for I, IC,DP, CB.

As to running to rich like the subject says, yes it is possible, but not in your case. Detonation can happen when you run extremely rich (ie 6:1 on a mildly modified car). O2 sensors can also read lean when you are excessively rich.

Put the ECU in and don't worry. I know of guys running stock setups with M2 ECU in there car.

You won't be running too rich for the moment, but in general, it IS bad to run EXCESSIVLY rich to the point of exaggeration. TOO much carbon build up will clog the apex seals up and prevent them from moving in and out of the rotor. Don't forget the rotors only spin in one direction. Just think of it like when you have a flat edged blade cleaning off a no parking sticker off of your windshield. Just by moving in one direction, at first it will work well, but eventually the paper and adhesive will begin to wedge itself under the blade.
