Porting wastegates?
I need to port my waste gates really bad! i have a mid-pipe and i can get 15PSI no problem. and im scared to death of gettin detonation. but i have no idea how to port them... do i have to take the turbos off, ect? what do i do to go about this? thanks a ton!

Yes, you have to remove your turbos to do this.

would a boost controller be able to control the boost? i have read that it can, but people still get their wastegates ported. i am just trying to get a straight answer.

boost controller wont be able to handle it. i don't know where you read that but from everything on this forum says if you go w/ mp you need porte the wategate and you also need to upgrade/replace your stock ecu.
easiest thing if you do not want to port the wastegate & upgrade ecu is put the main cat back on or get a high flow cat. 15lbs is way too much. You WILL get det. there are MANY threads on this issue just do a few searches. |
im running a mid pipe and I boost just fine... I get 12 -13 psi.. I do have a PFC set to .90(which is the stock settings)

I do have a PFC set to .90(which is the stock settings) there are other sides to an equation and in this case if you search the threads on this forum you will see strong support to port and upgrade ecu. If your running 15psi it obvious your running too high. even 13psi is too much. i think the safest is running 10psi w/ stock fuel setting other wise you may run lean. ehh, but what do i care its not my car. |
The WG is attached to the turbos. You have to remove it so there is no worry of getting shavings in your turbines.
I can't find any pics on the actual procedure, but I know that if you over bore the inner hole, you have ruined the WG. Raj |
all you need is a dual solenoid boost controller which can operate the wastegate faster+moreaccurately
|
but how do you know how much you are suppose to shave off the WG's?
|
The easiest thing is a restrictor plate. I use it and I can control boost easily with my ProfecB. No need for porting - but I do loose some power this way. Hell... loose some, gain some ;)
|
get a profec-b. i agree with 93blackfd you should have one anyway and 90% of the time it will controll it
|
ProfecB on its own cant control boost CREEP. It can open wastegate fully but the airflow can still be too big and thus causing boost creep (e.g. non-controllably rising boost)

I guess the only thing to do is go single so you can get a bigger external wastegate....hehe

i have my wastegate ported, running the midpipe. I have ABSOLUTELY NO boost creep even on cold nights in florida (50F). I am planning to throw on the profec b, just so i can run an intake. it always stays at .9bar

the assumption is that the wastegate is being opened all the way by the ecu and not able to flow enough.

Will porting the wg give that external wg sound abit?
