Ported Engine

What is the difference between a Street Ported Engine & a Race Ported Engine? Which one is better?

Kiflin Dec 20, 2002 10:21 AM

Unless its a full track car, go with the street ported, thats all you need to know.

af908 Dec 20, 2002 10:24 AM

street porting is when the stock intake/ exhaust ports are enlarged, when they say race porting i am guessing they are talking about bridgeporting in which there are additional ports added to the engine. Bridgeporting will give you more power but it will also make your idle rough... it is also alot more $$ then street porting.

Kiflin Dec 20, 2002 10:25 AM

Porting also lessens the life of the engine.

SleepR1 Dec 20, 2002 10:35 AM

Well perhaps? Mild street port should still be fairly good for durability?

Something like 47k or such average on a streetport or such number.

:bsflag:

porting has no inherent effect on reliability of the motor

rizzxx7 Dec 20, 2002 12:00 PM

that's funny but he's right porting does not nothing to do with engine life its totally all on the the owners

I would assume that porting the engine may even enhance the life of the motor, since it frees up the intake ports and makes the exhaust ports flow better.

Kiflin Dec 20, 2002 02:40 PM

I remember reading that the ported seems to last a average of 47k until the engine blows... *shrugs*

genieman17 Dec 20, 2002 02:45 PM

LOL thats probably cuz the people who choose to port their motors coincidentally also choose to beat the shit out of their motors. But there is no cause and effect relationship there....

Jedon Dec 20, 2002 10:18 PM

you are saying that a bridgeport does not affect the life of the engine? yeah right.
A streetport ("extend port") on the other hand, does not.

Hog wash...
I have seen 120,000 miles on street ported motors. street porting actually increases the life of the engine and you also get certain mods done at the same time..
bridge porting on the other hand....lol

israel Dec 21, 2002 01:13 AM

right, that's what i've heard, is that street porting doesn't affect engine life (not adversely anyway) but bridgeporting does, because of the overlap it causes? anyone else who knows more want to add?
