Popped off actuator hoses
 

I got a small problem with the metal nipple that connects the two hoses going to the wastegate- and turbopre-control actuators to the pressurized side of the primary turbo. It has come out of the housing a couple of times. Fortunately it's quite audible when that happens, and after digging around for quite a while after the first time it happened, plugging it back in is a quick process.

Question now though is what I need to do to prevent that from happening in the first place?

Any material I should apply to the nipple before putting it back in?

zip tie it... and use a small amount of silicone sealent.

How would I go about zip tieing the metal nipple to the housing? Wouldn't that melt of the ties?

Unless you mean the hoses, but those aren't coming of the nipple, the hole metal piece is coming out.

Or maybe I'm just being really dense...

You may try loctite to see if that will hold it. Otherwise, you are going to need to tap the hole to fit a new threaded nipple. There are brass nipples that are threaded that can be bought at most parts stores. Stay as close to the size of the original nipple otherwise it could change the response of your actuators. Also be careful not to get up against the compressor wheel or chamber wall when seating the nipple.

As I recall, the connector branches into a double-nipple arrangement for the two hoses. Thus, you will need to find a threaded double-nipple connector. Probably harder to find, but a good parts store like NAPA may have them. An alternative may be to extend out from the housing with a single brass nipple and then attach a short piece of hosing and branch from there with a plastic Y-connector to supply the two hoses leading to the actuators. A bit of a ghetto solution, but it should work.

I guess I'll try the loctite first before tapping the hole.

Scrape the hole with a round file ,only drag out so bits of alum will not fall inside the housing . Get the hole scrached up but not larger .Rough sand the end of the nipple so it will be scratched up . Put it back together with a coating of epoxy . Easy as that .
