Poping noise in rear when brake are applied... What could it be?
 

I hear this popping noise in rear when brake are applied. Ive always assumed it was just a noisy LSD but after reading up on how to stop my car from wheel hoping since i put drag radials on i read about rear trailing arms and toe links making popping noises. Considering my car is almost 16 years old and im sure some bushings are worn out after 85k miles am i hearing a noisy diff or something else?

do you have stock wheels or aftermarket ones?

wheels with an incorrect bore size can cause this problem.

The noise is coming from the rear diff. I think you might have to adjust it.

I do have after market wheels but it still does it with the stock wheels.
Its not a very loud noise it just sounds like something is moving ever so slightly and it doesnt do it all the time. That the best way i can describe it and why i thought it might be my LSD disengaging.

Probably your differential bushings. If not, it's one of the 6 common bushings that wear out either on your rear lower control arm or one in the upper control arm.

probably the toe links. I had the same problem until i got aftermarket ones and it fixed it perfect.

Mazda is the only one that supplies the pillow balls and there isn't a GM replacement for them.

As far as figuring out what it is, you're just going to have to get your hands dirty with the car in the air and go to town with a pry bar and see what you can get to move.

I've had brake pads slapping back and forth in the caliper causing a slapping noise when the brakes are first applied. It was due to fllattened/worn out pad clips. It wasn't on an FD, though.

Wow. You have gotten so many poor responses. If it were me, I'd spend more time using the search button to read threads from other people who solved this problem. I've seen too many people piss away money throwing mods at a car to 'fix' a problem that never gets fixed by the mod.

The stock bushings work very well on this car (other than being worn out after this long a period of time). you want to go aftermarket on the diff, trailing arms and toe links (more info on that also in the FAQ thread)

Most likely the pillow balls or toe links/trailing arms. Get the wheels off the ground, grab the tire, and start checking for play.
