Pop Up HID

I know everyone seems to hate them, but I quite like the pop up lights on the FD. I am wondering if anyone knows of a HID kit for the pop ups?? Thanks.

the_glass_man 01-16-02 03:22 PM

I love pop ups, but hate the stock lighting, I'm going to upgrade my bulbs to HID's or higher wattage. Standard H4 HID upgrades can be had on ebay for around $300-$400. Does anyone know if there is a better housing?
Most kits will only allow for one setting though, you will lose your highs, There is a new kit out there that will give you highs as well.

Mahjik 01-16-02 03:38 PM

Since you lose the high beams with going HID only, you could always go with something like the Knight Sport pop-ups:

Personally, I prefer that to the sleek light kits, since I really like pop-ups.

Knightsports has one HID kit, but they are selling for 1500 bucks.

Guys thanks for the replies....those Knight Sports lights are pretty cool...but 1500???

RX7 RAGE 01-16-02 04:27 PM

There may be something similar to the knightsports but with better lighting coming soon......... :D

I hate these kind of replies, in that you are thinking about buying something but then there might be something better coming out, but your not sure of what it is or if its better. Almost tantalizing you like your girlfriend might give you a reach around and doesn't:)

When's the light kit supposed to be ready?

As soon as my lazy @ss decides to finish them. ;) No really I work on them for awhile, then find something I like better and start over, then find something I like better, ect. I have more fog, driving, and headlights here than some import shops. :) I think I've finally found the setup I'm after. As soon as it's done, I will post here immediately.

Where can I find info on this?

Sidestick 01-18-02 05:32 PM

Apparently RE Amemiya is also now making a 4 beam conversion kit. I think it is anyway, there's very little info, but it seems like it. See it at www.rxecret.com under exterior RE stuff. $825.

I too for now want to keep my popups but I DO want HID dual filament kits here in the U.S. I have seen the dual filament kits advertised in Option and Option2 but I have not investigated actually ordering direct from Japan. I could get my best friend Taro to look into it for me.

That's a great idea! Any more info that anybody can find regarding prices and availability of this kit would be great. Call it a light sleeper :D. :hahaha: that was funny...

Toadman 01-20-02 09:39 AM

Remember HID's require a power transformer, so it's not "plug and play".

Bacon 01-20-02 11:59 AM

in my japanese rx7 mag..bellof(spelling) has a plug and play kit..along with knight sports...i foget the prices..ill post the yen prices later..both kits look nice but expensive
it has the harness adapter so all u do is plg it in, mount the tans former..and taaadow..hid light ...personally im thinking of re-doin my sleepy lights with the hella 90mm for the true low beam lighting..owell the saga contiunues

www.HID4LESS.com

our cars use H4 bulbs. they have TRUE HID kits with bulbs and the ballasts required for them. not fake colored blue bulbs or "super white" lights. these HIDs burn at 6000k while using less power. no wonder they are a thousand dollar option on BMWs etc.

the lights are available in STAGE 1 wich probuces a really white light used on BMWs and STAGE 2 wich make the purplish hue used on porsche's and audi's. STAGE 2 is brighter.. and of course costs more.

$600 - $800

Silex 01-20-02 08:31 PM

Ok nice...nice. Guess we got our answer guys, but this for pop-ups. What about hids for non pop-ups liek the C-West Kit? or RE's? I always liked choices :D. But in all fairness, I love the pop-ups more. They add a certain sleekness to them during the day, and plus, are a mean addition to your car at night! VRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!

Qball 01-21-02 03:52 PM

the HID kits from hid4less.com are for the pop up lights. you just pull out the bulbs from the rear of the lights and replace them with the kit.

you keep your pop up lights but have real HID xenon bulbs in them. the only difficult part is finding a place to mount the ballasts.

you can use these kits in anything as long as you can replace the bulbs in the housing. a couple of my friends have them in their motorcycles since the bikes use H4 bulbs. another replaced his bulbs in his supra.

i dont have 800 bucks to spend on the xenon kit. but its nice to have the real deal instead of a colored bulb.

I was going to put them in my '99 CBR900RR, but the 'H4s' in them have slightly different tab locations. I remember the wattage was like 45w or something, so a low-wattage version of H4 perhaps? The obvious solution was to file away the two lower tabs (which were the ones that were located differnetly).

BTW, do you work for hid4less.com or sumthin? Sure are pushing them hard, hehe!:D
