Lightbulb Poor Mans Vented HOOD MOD !!

After I Installed my Large stock location Intercooler with duct !

I Thought of Buying the Vented hoods !

Then I Thought of removing the rubber peice above the fire wall
that is sandwiched between the hood and the fire wall .

Well Guess What ! It works !

after removing it. I took my shop light and placed it near the
throttle body and the firewall and closed the hood and turned of the lights in the garage and Woaw ! I can see about 1/4 of an inch all the way across the back of the hood from the driver's seat.

Ya Ya I know ! When ya wash it your gonna get water in the engine ! NOT !!

If you use a garden hose to rinse not a fire hose !

Well I hope This helps ! Can't wait to road test it .

or..you can just get washers to prop the hood a little.. that's what I had to do on my civic for awhile to keep the temps down.. I've seen some 7s in Japan w/ that..

nice idea but two things to think about...

Do you know that air is flowing out of the hood at that location? Attach a little sting there and let us know.

If the air is flowing out of the engine bay - I thought that is where the air is pulled for the indside. If you get an exhaust leak....

I don't think propping the hood with washers looks very good, but it works for what it was intended to do. You can get vented hoods for around $400 if you find a good deal. I'm getting mine for $411 and add about $100 to get it shipped here.

This was tested and proved a bad idea by me a few years ago on the big rx7 list. If you attached some 6" streamers evenly across the rear edge of the hood, you will find that even as low as 30mph, they will be sucked into or back towards the opening.

Go try it. The base of the hood is a high pressure area.

The wind being redirected by the windshield creates a high pressure area just at the base of the window/ hood area. It is most likely blowing INTO the bay. You may see a temp reduction but it may be caused by the wind hitting the top of the motor. It may make the airflow LESS by reducing the amout of flow through the radiator.????

Poor mans vented hood

Ok, You got my Gears going !

I Just went in the garage and climbed into the car under the silk car cover and turn the key on and turned the fans on and it blew
air out of the hood and lifted the cover off the wind sheild !

I even put my hand near the hood and felt the air blowing !

So If my fan mod already cools the car down 20-40 deg.

with the hood vented and travling at any speed it must
Vent properly!

Road test on the weekend , I'll keep ya posted !

Uuummmm....two words:

Cowl induction

Absolutely stellar for having the windshield force air into the intake sitting on top of the ***gasp*** carburator.
