Polished UIM

hey got a 93 Fd and i wanted a polished UIM was wondering how to do this or do i have to buy one alrewady polished ?

you can polish just about anything that is metal on these cars. however, polished means upkeep - bare metal will tarnish over time; steel will rust, aluminum will oxidize...

as an alternative, you could have it cerama-chrome coated (google that). a lot of people go this route because it's easier, and i believe the ceramic coating helps to reflect heat.

also please remember to use the SEARCH function on the forums. there have been quite a few "how to" guides for polishing parts, and there is definitely info on other options.

These guys do a great job. Ceramic chrome is likely the most functional & durable form of making your intake manifold pretty. I would also recommend doing the lower. As theorie mentioned, it is a good heat reflector.

I have a UIM that's polished, that I never installed, was supposed to replace my home polished one, but the motor blew before I could get it on, and well the rest is as they say history...

PM me for price etc...

You can do it yourself, but it's alot of work. I had mine professionally done. For what they charged me, it was a deal as far as I was concerned.

I was surprised a little, but up-keep hasn't been that bad....and I'm pretty particular. Just hit with a little Meguire's aluminum polish by hand to clean the shine back up once or twice a year is all.

I did my manifold extension myself by hand. It took forever and was extremely messy. I recommend gloves, glasses and a painters mask. You may want to do it outside also. Mine isn't as finely polished as I didn't do too many levels of paper and I didn't do a polish wheel after, but it is smooth and shiny. You don't have to buff as often as you would wheels but water spots really ruin the finish and are hard to buff out.
