Plz Help Install My Springs..
 

Hey guys,

I am attempting to install my new springs on my 94 as we speak....The pic below is the Spring Compressor that I just rented from my local NAPA...This is basically all I need right?

I am looking for a good write up hopefully with some pics...I did some searching and found a little of nothing...So I was hoping someone would point me in the right direction...

Suspension work is very straight forward. Follow Dale's right up and the FSM, and you'll be fine. If you haven't purchased new upper spring mounts, you should strongly consider doing so, as they tend to be pretty much trashed after 60k miles.

Be sure to be patient and have liquid wrench or PB Blaster on hand to get some of those bolts loose.

Also, you will need a full alignment after the new springs are installed.

Here is my new problem...( pics below )

Maybe these are the wrong springs? There is no way I can get the bolt to even start unless I compress these new springs... And in the write up it says nothing about compressing the new springs..

You are soo right...It is very straight forward...Upper spring mounts are being shipped as of monday...Cuz mine are gone...Once again you are sooo right...

What kind of springs are they? Are you sure you have them in the right spot (i.e. front on the fronts, rears on the rear)?

You did not say what kind of spings you purchased? Do you know the new spring rates, front and rear (lbs/inch)? Are they supposed to lower the car? If so, than the new springs should be shorter than the old ones and go on pretty much without the need for substantial compressing.

I once got a set of lowering springs that were longer than the stock ones, while promising higher spring rates. Just can't happen, unless they're progressive ones, which these were not. Can't believe that the manufacturer actually tried to convince me that those taller springs would both lower the car and stiffen it. They turned out to be dead wrong about their own product. So, it happens...

They are supposed to be Eibach Springs, the older style... I purchased them through a thread in the for sale section... https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=523158

I think I have them the right way...Small ones in the front...Wider ones in the back...But they are taller than the stock ones...Thats why I was thinking they have got to be the wrong springs...They are supposed to drop the car 2 inches...

Looks like they (the springs) will be raising your car 2 inches!

The only possibility for them being OK if they are progressive springs where they compress a lot initially and stiffen up beyond a certain amount of compression.

I can not tell from the pictures but, I see the usual stampings on the blue springs but, can not read them. Those stampings should have the spring rates. Look for a set of numbers in the stampings, indicating ranges, like 350, 450 or anything like that. Anything near and over 300 lbs/inch should be stiffer than stock.

In order to lower and FD 2 inches, you'd probably need springs in excess of 500 lbs on the front to prevent the car from bottoming out. I would not recommend such high rates for an FD. Also, 2" is a lot to lower the FD. You'll be running out of shock travel and beat the shocks and yourself to death on bumpy roads.

Shawn, you can do two things. Wait until Monday and call the manufacturer and ask the questions about rates and progressiveness or, if you have the time and will, take a chance and install the front ones. After that drop the car to see how much it lowers.

Looking at the pictures they seem to be progressive as it appears that the top spring coils are closer together than the bottom ones. The proper way to install those would be with the larger distance coils towards to ground and the tighter wound coils towards the tower. I suspect that you have progressives and it may very well work. I also hope that it won't lower you full two inches, as it would be just too much for any quailty road ride. You'll probably need to cut some of the shock bump stop rubber in half to give the shock more travel before bottoming.

those are not Eibach's. Eibach's are part number 5525.140, and would say that on the spring.

So I went ahead and compressed the new springs and got them on...But I cant get the top 3 studs to line up... Is there any special trick to doing this?

just a lot of patience, u'll need to rotate to get them lined up that means compressing the springs again and rotating the plate with the bolts

Cant you just turn the top by hand? I've installed the suspension various times and never had a problem.

It is too tight...The spring is putting alot of pressure on the top..I have to compress the spring to get the top to move at all...

UPDATE: I never got them installed...I will be taking it to my mechanic and see if he can get the job done...
