plug wire ?

how do you know when your plug wires are bad? how often should you change them?

twinturboteddy Mar 14, 2002 04:00 AM

if you question it.

Change it.

That's my philosophy.

I'll second TTT's recommendation. Put some new ones in, and then replace them periodically (1-2 years) when you have the car apart. Everyone takes their car apart periodically, right? ;)

I've been running the MSD wires since July and have been more than pleased with them. They look really cool and have a neat little heat shield that covers the wire. I highly reccomend these wires. I do know some people have had some trouble with them though.

just got my set the other day. for my first time installing plugs and wires it was a bitch. aside from that i love how they have the heat shield on it. makes me think that they are meant to be there. i had two problems that were easily sorted out though. the first is i couldnt hear a click at all when putting them on. i had to play with the internal diamater of the metal braces to hear the clip. easy fix. second, one wire has excess wire coming out of the boot on the spark plug end. good thing i did this at night. anytime i revved the engine i was able to see it arc. stuffed it in the boot and fixed that. well, my pops did. thanks dad. great wires though. well worth it, and you know that you are getting quality with MSD. nothing against NGK, but for the same price, more or less, i would get the msd's

Make sure you "burp the boots" when you replace the wires no matter which brand you use.

hows racing beat one?
where ya get the msd ones?

GoRacer Mar 18, 2002 09:33 PM

I've never used the racing beat

but you want the street version if you listen to the stereo and don't want to hear the alternator.

I didn't know MSD had sleeving on them? ...didn't even see a version for FD in my Summit Racing catalog. I almost bought the Taylor Pro's untill I saw the Vitek. They barely feel warm with the protective sheathing.
