Please tell me its the turbos?

hey guys, i am just a little worried and was looking for some reassurance. a few days ago i started having some problems with my secondary turbo, it wasnt working correctly and i was blowing a lot of white smoke from around the turbo area and a lot out the exhaust. i decided to rip my turbos out, so three days later, here i am. the shaft that runs in between the two turbines in the secondary was snapped in half, and there was a lot of oil sitting in the exhaust manifold. to get to my question, can a bad turbo cause so much white smoke out the back, or do you think the seals in the engine that keep coolant seperate from air happened to go the same time the turbos went? I am just a little nervous that i will throw a single turbo on and the engine will be bad too. thanks in advance for the support.

I doubt the coolant seals and turbos would go out simultaneously. Oil looks like white smoke, so its probably oil. Yeah people say oil burns blue, but trust me, its mostly white. Coolant smells sweet too, oil smells, well, bad, so it would be pretty obvious.

Alot of oil wil burn white and really white when coming from a hot area such as the manifold. So I would be safe to say YES it is the turbo's. You will find out soon;). Were you getting a coolant buzzer? Or have you ever in the past weeks prior to the crapped out turbos?

Yea I would say turbos also.

thanks guys, its good to hear that burning oil can be white, i always figured blue for oil, white for coolant, but now i know otherwise. thats also a good point rikki, the coolant light has not buzzed, and i checked the coolant level today, seems to be right up to the top. i think i can sleep a little easier tonight. thanks again

I have the same problem except my Add Coolant Buzzer did go off for a few seconds. My coolant is full but my "white" smoke smells sweat. So I bet mine is the motor. Damn!!!!

I had the secondary turbo give way last year...
from some shop who misdirected a couple of vaccum lines.

Cause the charge control seleniod to stay closed while the secondary turbo was trying to spool boost. And phoof at high rpm... blocks of white smoke that stank
really bad... so much white smoke that cars behind me had to slow down to about 40 kms/ hr to see in front of
them.

best wishes to you though.
