Quick history - Weekend before Christmas I took my FD in to the shop to have Greddy piping, FC commander and boost controller installed. After they installed the piping and super-glued all the vac hoses, they through it up on the dino to do a base run. On the second run and the secondary twin blew an oil seal......
So, after almost two months I finally have the time this weekend to install new twins. After I popped the hood I have found two things that I didn't like that I think the shop did and now I have to fix, but not sure if they are the culprit. First: I found a bolt in the end of a hose. I think it’s a coolant hose, but not sure. Please verify…. Attachment 282342 Second: Under the Pressure Chamber I found a metal line that goes nowhere (left side of pic.) and a hose with a weird end (right side of pic.) Are these supposed to be this way? I have a vac. Diagram (third pic.) that shows an empty line, is that the metal line? Attachment 282343 Attachment 282344 |
The bolt in the end of the hose is coming from your Accelerated Warmup System. When the greddy elbow was installed, there was no nipple to plug that hose in like you would on the stock elbow.
The shop was too lazy to do it the correct way and remove the UIM to install block off plates on the AWS pipe and AWS solenoid. |
The metal line is supposed to be empty, and the "weird end" is a filter which is also supposed to be there.

super glue your vacuum lines?
the other items, as others have posted are of no worry. I think the empty line may be for automatic transmission vehicles. |
dose anyone have discriptions on removing the UIM to install block off plates on the AWS pipe and AWS solenoid? If so please post.

Is the 2nd picture your car? Because those are STOCK vacuum lines there. I'd be surprised if they did much of anything - super gluing the stock lines in place is a HUGE waste of time.

Dale If they really did super glue the stock lines then you are going to have one hell of a time removing them in the future. If you need to hold a vacuum line in place just use a small zip tie. That way it will be simple to remove. |
Actually, if you need the vacuum line to not come off, use a good quality silicone hose. I've NEVER had one pop off - they grip on VERY tight. IMHO, zip ties are a waste of time. I have used them on vacuum caps, though, as they're under far more pressure. Or small hose clamps.

I would if this was the first and only time I've been to this shop, but the truth is I have been dealing with these guys for over 4 years now. They have built 2 honda B series motors for me (both over 190 whp N/A). They are good guys that are very knowledgable when it comes to pistons, but I'm affriad they are learning about rotories with my FD.
In other works I don't want them to have a bad reputation for stepping out of thier comfort zone. |

I actually started to replace the Vac. lines since I'm already under the hood. Its not hard to get the lines off. Just slice the side with a utility knife and peel the hose off the line like peeling the skin off an orange. It take a little longer that zip ties but there is no way they will pop off under boost.

Ok now I really confused!!!
OK, This reply might be a little late but I went to that link where you got info on AWS removal. The "fdboy...." link and I could be worng but I'm almost positive that he's nowhere near the AWS. He's actually removing the fast Idle cam setup. Now you guru's out there correct me if I'm wrong but the AWS solenoid is under the UIM directly left, or right depending on how your looking at it, but next to the end of the pipe and hose connection to the elbow.
