please help identify this!
 

okay i don't have picture but i do have a good description. there is a single wire that is with all of the ecu wiring that is by it self it doesnt extend out very far but it has its own connector and i can't seem to find where it connects. someone told me that it was just for diagnostic purposes but i'm not so sure and i think its a ground for some thing. if it helps i just rebuilt the motor so it is part of the harness that you have to pull hrough the firewall. also it is a black wire with a yellow stripe. it is on a 93 touring any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is on the end of the wire? Is it an open loop? It's probably a ground if it's not in one of the connectors.

I think it is the wire for the fans. Ground the wire and see if the radiator fans come on. If so go ahead and run it to a switch for the fan mod.

I thought that was a plain black wire. Not one with a yellow stripe? Hmm.

I could be wrong. I figured if he grounded it that will tell him, one way or another, since it has a connector on it.

Someone please correct me if im wrong, but looking at the wiring diagram it is a wire that has to due with the metering oil pump. It seems to me that this wire just came out of the plug. Here is what I say to do.
There is 3 plugs that go in the ecu, unplug the largest one, if there is a slot that a wire is not going in thats where it should be. I show a black/yellow going to the bottom row 6th from either the right or left depending on how you look at it.

I would hope he'd check the connectors for a missing wire, but good idea actually saying something.

it's not the fans because they work. and it's not just a loose wire it has it's own single connector on the end not a loop. hope this clears it up a little.

I discovered the same unplugged wire when removing my ECU recently (93 touring). It has a connector, but apparently nowhere to connect!

so are you haveing any problems caused by it??

Sure sounds like the ECU "ground" wire....mine was just like that, does it have a female spade connection?
Your fans will work as they are supposed to....the wire that I and others are referring to is a "spare" wire....well hell, I have a picture.....

I'm pretty sure that's your fan mod wire. It's black (w/or w/o a yellow stripe) and has a plastic connector on it, and it comes out right next to the stock ecu, near the fan relays. Turn the key to the "on" position, leave the engine off, ground that wire and listen to your fans turn on. This wire can be used to ground a switch so you can turn your fans on (at medium speed) whenever you feel the need. Go try it and check back with us.
