plastic scuff plates installation question
 

do these use the same mounting holes/positions as the aluminum/steel scuffs? if not do they cover up the holes/mounting points that the aluminum/steel ones do?

searched and couldn't find the answer thanks :)

You have to drill new holes, insert rubber thread nuts and mount. Does not use clips like the original

I used the same holes with mine.. Worked out fine its a direct bolt on

I think you guys have it backwards - the plastic stock scuff plates are very small, and will not cover the holes made to install the aluminum scuff plates. I know one guy here locally with REALLY beat up aluminum scuff plates that was wanting to go back to the plastic ones, but that would almost look worse.

Absolutely correct. Plastic ones are thin and will not cover the holes that were drilled to install the aluminum wide plates. The paint on the sills often got beat up getting in and out of the car so people put the aluminum ones on to cover those marks. The aluminum ones are not cheap rx7.com has them and also scuff and mark up if you are not careful. The plastic ones clip on to the lip of the seam at the rocker and the inner car. i have seen people put rubber gromets in the holes when they put the plastic ones back - looks bad imo. Best alternative I saw was an aluminum set that were powder coated with a hammer tone finish-paint would just get scuffed up - this is very durable if done properly. If you can find someone who does powder coating in your area it is not too expensive.
