pilot seal orientation ?
Presently I do not have a seal behind the pilot bearing. I am going to install a new pilot bearing and seal. What part of the seal faces the pilot bearing?
Thanks in advance. |
I put the groove facing the bearing, but I couldn't find anywhere that said I was right.

I couldn't find orientation info eiither...of course that's why I'm asking. How long and how many miles has yours been in that position?
thanks for the input |
The pilot seal goes in with the thicker rubber seal side towards the pilot bearing to provide a slight seal so that dirt/dust doesn't get into the bearing and the grease stays inside.
Make sure to tap it in a little, check the distance, tap some more and check again. You want the rubber on the seal side to touch the bearing but not get completely smashed up against it. I used a deep socket the same diameter or slightly smaller than the seal (I think it was 12 mm?) to get it in place. |
thanks guys
Atihun, that is the process I used, btw your 35r build up looks very impressive. |
