Pics and part#'s for MANA AC compressor and expansion valve

In searching old post, there's confusing on the different types of AC systems, that is MANA or DENSO.

I'm still not entirely sure how to tell the difference, but my dryer (the canister in the front by the battery) is black which some have suggested is a MANA system.

I then ordered the parts off of the MANA page not DENSO and they seem to be a match.

The part number for the AC compressor is FD01-61-450

The part number for the expansion valve is FD01-61-J14

Most FD's use the MANA US-installed system - only the Tourings got the Nippondenso Japan-installed system. Why they did that I have NO idea. The MANA AC parts are WAY cheaper than the Japan Nippondenso parts.

How much did the compressor/expansion valve set you back?

If I recall, there's also some deal with the sight glass on the receiver/dryer - if it's on the receiver itself, it's Nippondenso, built into the line, it's MANA.

Might be worth putting a new receiver/dryer on as well - they're pretty cheap.

Dale,

the compressor was around $300 brand new from Malloy Mazda. Mazdacomp wanted $900

the expansion valve and dryer where cheaper from mazdacomp, about $50 a piece.

The wierd thing is my car is a TOURING so you would think it would be a Denso system but it isn't. When I get the dryer, I'll update this thread with a comparision pic.

I did get the compressor off, but getting access to the expansion valve is a PITA. I have the glove box off and all the screws and clips out but can't get that bottom to drop out of the way
 any tips?

ever get the expansion valve in? what does this do? how do you know when it is gone bad?

yup it was a PITA...

I changed it because it is a common source for problems as it can get frequently clogged. After going through all the effort of getting my AC up to spec I didn't want to have to tear it all down again to change a $50 part.
