Pics of my repainted front lip spoiler

My front lip spoiler was real scratched up and was an eyesore after I repainted my car. Rather than spending money I didn't have for a new one, I decided to try repainting it with rubberized undercoating as suggested a while back by a fellow forum member. I think it turned out real good.

I just wanted to share a few pictures.

I used Westley's rubberized undercoating from Pep-Boys. Tip: hold can a couple feet away from surface and depress button have way. About 3-4 coats should do it.

It has a dark black satin textured appearance. Check back with me in a couple months to see how she's holding up.

Your FD looks really nice. I think I might do the same thing to my front lip spoiler.

MDoMe7 07-24-02 12:00 AM

looks pretty good!

Where do you get that paint from? Do you have a web address so I can get some down here in NZ?

Looks really good!

robperri 07-24-02 12:46 AM

I got it from Pep-Boy's here in CA. If you don't have one in NZ I would try an auto parts store that sells paint. Or try the web.

Damn that looks good, now I have to find a beat up R1 lip for my car.

rxshun7 07-24-02 03:23 AM

has anyone heard of line-x? they do the same kind of rubber coating on truck beds and utility vehicles. I was actually thinking of doing this to my lip before, but decided not to. It looks really good though. nice work.

Quickfini 07-24-02 04:45 AM

That actually looks REALLY good!

I think i'm gonna do that to mine after mine gets scratched up more.. right now i just have it painted silver to match the silver body.. but its not lookin so good anymore.. :(

Looks good!!!

I wonder if they have something like that here in Italy?

forcefed1 07-24-02 08:25 AM

screw the lip the rest of your car looks awsome. the paint looks 1 day old. not a spec of dirt or bug mark in it.
Nice lip too

I just did the same thing to the R1 lip that I got for my FD. I am skeptical that the underbody coating will hold up over the long run. It's pretty soft stuff, and sunshine doesn't help make it any better. Mine isn't installed quite yet (the lazy factor), but when I've installed it and done some driving I'll post an update.

RX7Elmo 07-24-02 10:31 AM

i'm curious as to why no one paints the R1 lip to match?? Does anyone have pics of this done? or does it realy look bad painted. Thanks.

robperri 07-24-02 10:32 AM

Thanks for the compliments. It took a couple hours in the heat to dry to the touch, but I'd wait overnight to re-install it. It's rubber, so it's flexible and won't crack. The beauty of it is it fills in all the scratches and scuffs. If it gets dull, I'm sure some Armor-All with shine it up. If it only lasts a few months I'll re-shoot it again, cause the paints cheaper than a new R-1 lip. Eventually I'll by a new one, but not for awhile.

Very nice, very clean cym.

robperri 07-24-02 10:36 AM

I thought about having painted to match, but the draw back is the paint could crack with the first driveway or curb I hit. On some cars it looks good painted to match and on others it doesn't. I guess it boils down to personal preference.

SiKoPaThX 07-24-02 11:02 AM

Whoaaa..... VERY NICE! That is beautiful. I don't think I'll ever buy a front lip again!
