Pics of my new custom gauge pod

A few months ago I asked my friend to make me a custom gauge pod that's fit where my center channel speaker is and after a few prototypes, here's the final product. It's made out of high impact eurogel and has about 6 coats of epoxy paint (used on your kitchen appliances). We droped a hammer on the last prototype from about six feet and the pod didn't even get a dent! we've got a complete silicon mold of the pod so we can make others. It does sit a little higher than flush, but even still, it looks stock. It uses the same mounting hardware from the speaker cover and holds firmly in place. The bottom of the pod itself is covered in black felt so it won't scratch the dash and it helps fill in any gaps. the hole in the bottom is more than enough to route wire's and boost lines. And the best part is that it'll fit any gauge up to 2 1/16"! I had to dremel out the holes for my gauges but they fit tight and don;t rock around. I'll finish installing the gauge hardware this saturday. I told ya'll I'd keep ya posted about the final product and so here it is.

Youve done a great job. Why did you choose to make your own instead of going flyRX7's pods?

thats like asking someone " why did you choose to have sex and make a baby rather than adopt"? cos its fun , its original and its truley my design.

Are you gonna mass produce these suckers?

i like how its shaped like the drivers dash pot. good job!

that's the whole reason behind it. i didn't like the way the one on rx7.com looked or the way on fly's. both of those seemed like they would aim the gauge at your chest, instead on at your eyes. these DO aim at your eyes so it's more visually accessable, it doesn't create a blind spot, and it looks almost stock. My brother has an fd as well and he said he'd like to get one as well. the cool thing about how my friend set up the mold is now we can make replacements or new ones for anyone quickly. I like it and i can't wait to get the gauges hooked up.

if we get enough people interested we might sell them.

I'm interested if the price is right!

What about a three (3) gauge pod, like I have. FlyRX7's are great It took me several years to even get installed. Gosh it looks stock (hate it). Must be stereo buff.

for right now it's a duel but we might make a tri pod later. I'll get back to ya'll tomarrow about the price. thanks for the feed back. it's always nice to hear what others say about custom work.

neopj3 04-28-06 03:28 PM

The price is 100.00, shipped to your door. the gauge area itself will be left closed so you can have your gauges fit perfectly. but we'll start the center hole.

Is there any chance you could take a picture of them from behind like the 4th attatched picture only without glass in the way? It looks killer BTW.

'ppreciated,
Dave

these are a few new pics. they show off the little visors a little better. when I had hoped that the visors would cut down on the amount of glare off the windshield at night, but when everything was finished it goes great with the drivers dash.

Two questions:

The finish seems very glossy. Would more of a matte finish be possible?

If one were to order one and upon inspecting it in person not like it, can it be returned for a refund?

Compliments on a nice job.

neopj3 04-29-06 11:47 AM

I could try and make a more matte finish. These are handmade so as to the finish I'll do my best. As far as the refund, it's a small operation in my friends garage so they're made one at a time per-order. So no refunds, sorry. I doubt that you'll have any problems with it.
