Photos of my HID sleek headlight kit

I finally got time to finish my HID sleek headlight kit. The beam pattern is amazing and the intensity of the lights are just as good as any other German factory equipment HID. It's no surprise since Hella does a lot of OEM for German auto manufacturers. Below are some photos:

For comparision purpose, I also took pictures of the GS400 HID and the BMW 330i HID. You can tell the HID sleek light kit I got is about the same or even better than the BMW 330i HID and a lot better than the GS400 HID. Flash on the camera takes away the true color of HID but you can still compare the intensity and beam pattern.

I will have video of the actual driving with the HID headlight kit uploaded on my website within 1-2 days.

Chuck, Congrats on the headlight conversion, you have the best light pattern by far of all the other light kits so far and the forward visability is AMAZING!!!!!!

Cypher 06-29-02 09:54 AM

That's awesome looking..compared to the stock FD light output this is sheer night & day difference..

I think this will definitely be a good modification when I accumulate the money..:)

Silex 06-29-02 10:46 AM

OMG!!!! That is so beautiful! But so much money :(. I'm with everyone else. I can't do too much too soon. Also good to upgrade in moderation.

enuttage 06-29-02 11:27 AM

Well I'll be...

If I'm reading the prices and specs correctly, this is fantastic! From my understanding you've bested the curve on the other custom sleek-light kit makers as well, and with subtlety. Very nice.

Good luck to you with it. I may order one eventually.

CCarlisi 06-29-02 11:58 AM

amazing, what's the damage?

Silex 06-29-02 12:00 PM

Eh? What's the damage? What do you mean?

Cypher 06-29-02 12:00 PM

From the website..$800 for the Sleekkit with Halogens, and another $1000 for the HID option..so I'm guessing $1800..

I paid about $1100 for my HID kit of my VW Passat and that was a full Euro headlight replacement..so this, I suppose, is in par..that is also a Hella..

Silex 06-29-02 12:03 PM

Yea...Hella expensive :D. But honestly well worth it since no one else has been able to make a HID kit that is so readily available yet.

Color

What color/tint are the HID"s. LIke is it a Audi or X5 purple? Or more like a Lexus pure white HID?

JSpecRZ 06-29-02 01:21 PM

Chuck, you weren't kidding about it being really bright and great light pattern. LOOKS AWESOME!!!!

I also got the housings today.. very nice.. now I just need the HIDs!!:D

Rotaryextreme..

Just got a couple of questions:

1. what does the Lighting look like with the regular lights? Can you post pics of it?

2. During install. Is it a direct replacement, or do you have to cut/modify sheet metal like some other others?

3. Is the wiring harness direct replacement/fit with stock harness?

Thanks

Yes-- Chuck it would be great if you will post this info. Either on your website or here.

Dimcorner 06-29-02 03:51 PM

is it me or it looks like the amemyia kit?

rotaryextreme 06-29-02 04:54 PM

1. I will order a shipment of the regular Hella 90mm lights next week and once I get those in, I will put them on my car and take some pictures. The pattern will be the same though since both the regular Halogen version and HID version share the same light housing.

2. You will have to cut the stock headlight mounting points like the RE Amemiya one. The light kit I have is based on the RE Amemiya headlight kit with some modifications done to it. As you can see, it has a drastic improvement over the regular RE Amemiya headlight kit.

3. At this time, you will have to splice the wires to the stock wiring harness. I can't find those male connector will will plug into a H4 connector. If someone knows where to find those, I will provide them with the kit.

The Hella 90mm HID is $550 each from my supplier. I know there is going to be a cheaper way to convert it to HID. Hella 90mm HID has two versions: one uses the H9 bulb and the other uses the H7 bulbs. There are H7 retro fit HID kit out there selling between $450-550. So if you buy the H7 Hella 90mm Halogen lights and then do the retro fit H7 HID conversion yourself, you will be saving about $500. I am not making money on the Hella lights and I am willing to sell everything else but the Hella 90mm lights so you can do the HID retro fit yourself.

Fiberglass version with everything but the Hella lights: $575

Carbon fiber version with everything but the Hella lights: $775

Re: Color

The color is like a lexus GS400 white HID but brighter. If you do the retro fit yourself, you can buy either the white or blue HID.

Hah, LOL! Kind of looks like an angry Sonic the Hedgehog to me....

rotaryextreme 06-30-02 11:21 AM

That's the reflection from the carbon fiber light housing. It does look kind of freaky.

Chuck, how are the lights from on coming traffic? have you had a chance to see if it blinds the opposing traffic?

rotaryextreme 06-30-02 05:37 PM

The projector lights have a very nice cut off so you will not blind the on coming traffic. The Hella 90mm lights are the true low beam and high beam lights, not some fog lights like all the other headlight kits are using by aiming the lights lower to create the low beam effect.

I have had the C West headlight kit and original RE Amemiya headlight kits on my car. Of couse, I also had the stock headlight with upgrade light bulbs. None of those comes close to the HID sleek light kit. If anyone of you is in the Bay Area, ( I live near Berkeley), you can meet me and check out the lights yourself. Email me at rotaryextreme@aol.com to arrange a meeting with me.
