PFS IC vs. Blitz SMIC?
What do you all think?
I can get the PFS used at a really good deal, but then I have to replace my Apexi intake, and I would rather not do that.... should I skip this deal & go with the Blitz? I have searched here and haven't found a comparison for these to ICs, so I thought I would ask... |
I'm not sure Blitz stock-mount will really do much for you. Its not realy much bigger than stock... just a bit thicker. The PFS is meant to work w/ their intake, and its not a bad system. I'd save your cash and find a larger coolor that works w/ your Apex intake, if you're really married to it.

Go PFS it works dam good and no plumbing work has to be done other than re-working the intake but that is it:bigthumb:

Blitz SMIC
I have a brand new Blitz SMIC for sale if anyone is interested. I decided to go FMIC.
The Blitz SMIC comes fully polished, with all hoses and clamps for the install. Surface area is alittle bigger than stock but the thickness capacity is 2wice as much! Bottom line, any intercooler upgrade is all better than stock. Timmy |
I won't argue w/ your results, and ANYTHING is better than a stock IC. Overal lsize of the core and surface area have a great deal to do the efficiency. The Blitz uses the factory duct, so at the end of the day the air coming in isn't hitting a much larger square inch surface than before. The super thickness of the Blitz should give it a lower pressure drop... that might account for you quicker spooling.
FWIW i have a PFS, and wish i'd gone bigger still. i'm not knocking the blitz, its great looking, fairly inexpensive, and of course an improvement over stock. I'd bet that the PFS (or M2 med, etc) would be better, and that an M2 large or CWR better still... no offense intended, i probably understated the value of replacing the stocker with any aftermarket set up. |
I like my PFS IC, and i've got it paired up with a Pettit intake, works lovely. You can make your own pettit intake out of some K&N filters and soup cans if you'd like.

I bought mine 3 weeks ago and the picture was polished, mine was not when I received it. I ordered mine from rx7store.net. |

I'm on a roll with these PFS posts...

A thicker core is not going to give you much more of a temperature drop in contrast to a thinner (stock) IC with the same surface area. What you will feel with the thicker cored Blitz is the lower pressure drop across the core = more boost. Again, this is still a good thing compared to the stock IC, but when I was shopping for a medium IC for my medium boost application I wanted a decent temperature drop above the stock IC as well as a lower pressure drop across the core. See http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/intercoolers.html for comparisons of IC's. |

Im not exactly sure if the blitz stock mount comes polished. I would presume not since it didnt come that way. That picture looks like its brushed aluminum . The picture I have at the store looks polished but I found that on another site and might have been done after the fact. I will give blitz a call and see what they say.

I am thinking about selling my Blitz SMIC, if anyone is interested just shoot me a PM.

Blitz SMIC
OH crap shoot, you are right the Blitz SMIC now doens't come polish but rough casting end tanks. I never even opened mine up yet.
Oh well, I guess they decided to drop the polish look. :) So it wasn't Jason's fault that you got an un-polished one, but the damage during shipping is another story. Dont' let UPS get away with that! Timmy |
anyone know if the gReddy intake will fit with the PFS intake?
they look like they stack pretty vertically... http://66.216.67.51/product.asp?0=214&1=322&3=444 |
or the HKS intake.. that looks pretty vertical too...

I did a huge search and did a lot of homework about the smic upgrade before I bought. I asked a lot of people what they thought about the different intercoolers. Basically, most of the people that I talked to and all the info I read, the M2 medium was the best in cooling, dyno gains, and getting to keep the stock battery. The M2 medium has over 500 cubic inches of core, has a great fitment, and has the least pressure drop of any of the smics. It cools withing a few degrees of the large M2 smic. It has a pressure drop of .5 - Dave at KDR said he's seen people losing as much as 15 rwhp by going with a smaller IC than the M2. The Blitz unit is much better than the stock IC - but not by hege gains. If you're staying pretty much with dp, exhaust, intake, ecu at 12 psi then the Blitz is good. It does become a cooling issue is you want 300-400 rwhp then you NEED a better and larger IC. I have heard of somebody getting dynoed at 386 rwhp at 15 psi with a PFC IC though
|
I WANT an M2 Med... but I just can't spend $1500 on an IC right now...
I got the PFC at a really good price, so I guess I will stick with that... I just need to get an intake that works with it now... anyone want to buy a 3 month old Apexi? :) |
I have an RE Amenyia intake (basically like a picnic basket in size) and lodged it to make it to fit.
|
is there a performance drop between the PFS intake and any of the intakes with exposed elements?

i am running a m2 intake, m2 dp, m2 reprogram pcm, pfs cat back with a stock main cat. i am told intercooler is next. what do you think? m2 med, it's $$$ but that's what it's all about.
