Pfc won't start after large puddle
 

I drove in a big rain storm for 5 mins. Hit a huge puddle. Tried starting car the day after and no ignition. I found a 10 amp fuse from positive terminal on battery blown and replaced. Lights are on continuous and rad fans were on also continuously. Looked at pfc and it would not move from apexi screen. Put old computer back in. Lights still on fans are off and car started. Any help would be appreciated thanks a bunch. Oh ya stock 93 fd rhd. Car is purring ATM 800 rpm.

Did the computer itself get wet at all?

Nope not at all. I just drove the car today with original computer and all is fine. Just lights stay on. Fans on rad work properly and lights are the cheap ebay ones with double beam so the relays might be done in lights. I use quick battery disconnect anyways so lights on all te time is not an issue.

id be a bit concerned the water got into something major in the engine bay and shorted out something inside of the PFC, since u said it will run with the stock ecu


perhaps open the lid on it and check for any signs of burned resistors/capacitors,voltage regulators... ect

Ya I probably blew up the pfc damn. Read about another case of his situation and he fuel pump is not working. I'll get it checked at electronics store then update the thread. Hope it's a cheap fix.

Pop open the case and see if anything is burnt.

We have seen numerous cars with fried ECUs due to missing fender liners on the left side. Owners drive the cars in the rain, water splashes up on the diagnostics box and fries the ECU.

Thanks for replies everyone. I opened up the pfc unit and didn't see anything burnt or swelled for caps. I plan to bring it to electronics shop and hopefully they can do some tests on capacitors and resistors. I found an exposed wire that was chaffed on right side on headlight support (big bunch of wires in plastic covering) If water hit the exposed wire I bet that was the culprit. welp pfc is past warranty so I am on my own after the electronics pros can't fix it. I will update after electronics shop gets to look at it. At least i have the original computer woot.
