Pettit boost gauge column mount loose??
Just picked up an FD that has the Pettit boost gauge column mount piece. But it's super loose - just sitting there. There doesn't seem to be anything that holds it down ... there is nothing on it to snap into the clips that stick up from the bottom stock piece. Surely it isn't supposed to be this way?? What do you guys do to mount it securely??

if you want it super tight, use a tapping screw and screw it into the pillar, but of course this will make a hole, and some people don't want that. You can use doublesided tape, but it just doesn't work that well.

I have the Pettit steering column boost gauge and the instructions say to use some black rvt silicone to attach the upper half. Apply a little bit around the base of the bottom half and align the top half so everything is flush then put two large rubber bands around the steering column and let it sit 24 hours and it will hold really solid.

thats actually a pretty good idea.

I've been taking mine off every now and then recently (to access the guage cluster) and electrical tape does the trick. Have the wheel turned slightly right and you can tape it back behind the wheel some, cant really see it unless your looking at it.

I have that mount...Pretty poorly made IMO...I had to do a bunch of sanding and such to make it sit right...from pettit is made the gauge sit lean looking...Anyway, it's good now and is held in place with clear sillicone glue.

has anyone noticed that all the pettie ones are a bit off to the side in pics but look like they are centered when you are driving???
of all the ones i have seen online including my own, they always look a little off |
sorry to revive the dead, but i'm now about to do this and have a question about the silicone:
1) what is RVT? 2) what is the likelihood that this will come off and come clean if i ever decide to remove the pod and return the stock cover? 3) is there anything else that people have found to work better (clean look, easy to return to stock?) thanks eric |
RTV is a gasket sealant/maker. It comes off very easily.

It's the thread that wouldn't die!!! I just got my gauge kit. In the instructions it state to take the included silicone vac line and attach one end to the UIM and the other end to the line connected to the gauge. I didn't get a silicone vac line in my kit. I called Pettit and they said there is no vac line in the box. Did you guys get a vac line with your set?? And yeah, I thought the pod was pretty well made, but they did a crappy mounting job with the gauge....

i just bought the pod, not the kit...
anyhow, just buy a 3.5 or 4mm hard wall vacuum hose, shouldn't be more than 1.50/ft btw the silicone worked perfectly... |
Thanks!
