im gettin a FC convertible and swapping in a jdm FD engine. now i've been told to get a haltech standalone ecu, megasquirt fms, & icr the rest. but i've also been told by a bud of mine that he's tried most of that and its been really rough for street driving, but felt perfect for track use. most of his complaints were about throttle response, and spark i belive(but i doubt he had it tuned fully). so i want track performance, but street friendly(mostly so i can beat my buddies 800whp srt-4, he's always raggin on our rotaries). what's your guys suggestions? i am a noob by the way, but i am advancing.

If your buddy has told you all these things why don't you take a ride in his car and find out for yourself?

When you say rough for street and perfect for track I'm sure this has nothing to do with what engine management system your running nor whether its tuned. Its to do with the suspension and judging from your mates descriptions I would say his got coilovers which can be harsh on normal streets.

As for beating your mates '800whp' car anything is possible with the right amount of money.

Have you considered just buying an FD to start off?

800whp is not a reasonable goal to get started on unless you have thousands upon thousands ready. Rotaries just don't get to that power level without loads special considerations. However, you could be faster with a lot less power. (Particularly if you have the traction).

I think you'll get better response from the single turbo or 2nd gen forums, as an FD engine without the stock twin turbos or emissions is pretty much like a 2nd gen motor anyway. Plus it may be more work since you'll need to adapt the engine harnesses, which might be different. It may be better to take an FC T2 motor and build it up using some FD engine parts along the way.

Wrong platform useing the vert. wrong goal wanting to beat his bud. And if hes new to rx7's his chances are slim and none! I also doubt 800 h/p srt i have seen some 600 h/p on the street but they dont hook up so there useless. Anyway if im wrong good luck.
